Pottery technology is one of the traits traditionally linked to the transition from hunter-gathering to farming in Eurasia, using it as proxy for the so-called Neolithic transition. Current research, nevertheless, has allowed proposing different dynamics for both phenomena. Nowadays, it is possible to identify different trajectories across the cont...
The study of seeds of Early Neolithic sites provides us with essential information regarding the economy of the first farmers. Establishing a reliable chronological framework of the Early Neolithic is basic for understanding how the initial phases of the Neolithic took place. The area called Prebético externo is a strategic communication route that connects the Levantine coast of Southeastern Spain with the Central Plateau. However, our information about the Early Neolithic in this territory is still very scarce. The objectives of NeoCrono project are: a) to increase our knowledge about the subsistence of the first farmers of this area by studying the seeds of the archaeological site of Pico Tienda III (Hellín, Albacete); and b) to increase the chronological information of the Early Neolithic in this area by obtaining radiocarbon dates on short life organic materials, in order to understand better the first stages of the Neolithic in the interior of the Iberian Peninsula.
Technological innovations and social changes are two main aspects in the History of humankind and they have an important relevance in the current society. Recognize the social context, the chronology and the implications of these technological changes are crucial aspects in our understanding of the past societies. Pottery is one of the technological innovations that has been traditionally linked to culinary and cooking practices. Food traditions and culinary practices are strongly related with environmental, social and cultural constraints. So their construction along the History is an interesting issue to address. AtCoast will address the modifications in the role of pottery technology following the introduction of food production and late consolidation in the Atlantic coast of the Iberian Peninsula and possible influence areas (ca. 6000-3000 cal BC).
