The application of algae has been recognized as a sustainable bioreactor that possesses numerous biological active compounds with wider application in pharmaceutical industry in drug development. Algae have numerous medical attributes that could serve as a permanent replacement to all the challenges associated with synthetic drugs such as high level of resistance, low effectiveness, high cost. Over the years, a lot of tremendous attention has shifted on the application of algae due to their uncountable application in several sectors allowing new resources not only for energy and food but also for conservation, environmental bioremediation, new source of pharmacologically active substances, boom for agriculture, sources of new industrially important bio-products, new sources of food and nutraceuticals. In view of the aforementioned, the application of micro and macroalgae have been realized as a next generational biotechnological tool that will go a long way in mitigating all the various problem facing a human being worldwide most especial to cater for ever-increasing populations. The book also comprises information about the nanoparticle synthesis derived from algae/ microalgae, their uses and applications in production of products for pathogen diagnostic, pharmacological properties and different drugs/ medicines for human health.
