Introduction
My research focuses on socio-political and economic developments in the Early Bronze Age (EBA) Southern Levant (3300-2000 BCE). I investigate innovation in EBA olive oil production, looking at how agricultural practices were organized in the early urban systems. I also investigate how mortuary practices were used as a forum for navigating emergent urban arrangements. I specialize in ceramic analysis, archival analysis, collections analysis and archaeological excavations.

During August 2018, the University of Toronto mounted excavations at a Yarmukian site called Tabaqat ar-Rutūbah طبقة الرُّطوبَة (WQ117), which the Wādī Qusaybah Survey first discovered in 2012, and subjected to small test excavations in 2014. The site is about 0.35ha in size and in 2014 we encountered stone and mud‑brick building foundations as wel...

Excavations by the Wadi Quseiba Project of University of Toronto at 'Ain Quseiba in 2018 uncovered architecture, pottery and lithics dating mainly to the Middle Bronze II A-B periods. The excavated structures appear to be domestic and the site would appear to be a small village, some 0.5 ha in area, near the mouth of a wadi that drains into the Jor...

During August 2014, a team from University of Toronto conducted test excavations at three locations in the drainage basin of Wadi Quseiba, west of Irbid, Jordan. One of these was a “candidate site” that the Wadi Quseiba Survey had discovered in Wâdî al-Bîr, one of Wadi Quseiba’s main tributaries, in its 2013 field season. This turned out to show go...

Band-slip is a motif applied to ceramics during the Early Bronze Age in the Levant. It consists of a series of intersecting bands that extend across the body of a vessel in a net-like pattern. The band-slip motif is a prevalent feature in the ceramic assemblage at Tell Rakân II, a large-scale Early Bronze Age I olive oil press in the northern Jorda...

This project is the initial analysis of Tell Rakân II (WZ130), an EB I olive oil production site in the Wadi Ziqlab, Jordan. Tell Rakân II was exclusively an olive oil production center, and was likely associated with the near-by sites of Tell Rakân I (WZ120) and Al-Basatîn (WZ135). The olive oil installation at Tell Rakân II covers the entirety of...
