Introduction
My name is Nardo de Vries (1977) and I am a researcher and PhD candidate at the School of Business and Economics from Maastricht University. I teach Entrepreneurship & Small Business Management and International Business Research Methods. My main research focus is on (solo) self-employment and freelance entrepreneurial activity. I am (co-)author of several scientific papers on this topic, each addressing different aspects of solo entrepreneurship, such as networking activity, start-up motivation, ambitions and innovative behavior. I am experienced in setting up and analyzing longitudinal panel surveys (on solo self-employment). I participate as scientific expert in the CRSE network, an international Think Tank on Research on (Solo) Self-Employment based in London.

An increasing proportion of the Dutch labour market is formed by the solo selfemployed (i.e. one person enterprises, mainly offering their own human capital). Knowledge on solo self-employed is still limited and this makes tailoring policy measures towards this group difficult. Their network position may play a crucial role in economic performance...
