While the use of microservices is an approach that is used in modern software development to increase flexibility, Big Data allows organizations to turn today’s information deluge into valuable insights. Many of those Big Data architectures have r...
In the recent years, the term big data has attracted a lot of attention. It refers to the processing of data that is characterized mainly by 4Vs, namely volume, velocity, variety and veracity. The need for collecting and analysing big data has increased manifolds these days as organizations want to derive meaningful information out of any data that...
Big data analytics and the according applications have gained huge importance in daily life. Due to the growing amount of data that are produced, the concept of big data analytics gained plenty of interest among researchers and practitioners. However, there are many challenges related to its use. One of those is the data storing and subsequently the corresponding extraction of required data. Since this process is prone to error, it require...
Big Data is a term that gained popularity due to its potential benefits in various fields, and is progressively being used. However, there are still many gaps and challenges to overcome, especially when it comes to the selection and handling of relevant technologies. A consequence of the huge number of manifestations in this area, growing each year...
With the current rapid changes in technologies and business demands, the IT service providers have to configure and adapt their IT system landscapes to cope with the dynamic changes. However, the effects of the adopted changes to the Quality of Service (QoS) must be considered in order to sustain the Service Level Agreements (SLA). QoS is strongly...
This paper discusses the various aspects of the instrumental quality monitoring of city outdoor lighting using IoT technologies on the example of the central area of Perm city, such as selection of the monitored parameter and its measurement methods, methods of processing measured data, the applicability of the results of measurements for various a...
The amount of data to be produced and analyzed is increasing year by year. As a result, the concept of big data gained interest among researchers and practitioners. However, a plethora of challenges and potentials require the attention from researchers and practitioners to enhance the future development. Apart from the pure processing of the data a...
The importance of the Quality of Service (QoS) is widely acknowledged due to the increasing shifting towards client-oriented IT services. The QoS attributes of any IT system are strongly characterized by its Non-Functional Requirements (NFRs). It has been well-recognized that the NFRs are invariably more problematic and more expensive to meet in th...
Digitization raised new opportunities and challenges for organizations. Due to greater use of IT in business, extra expenses accrue to improve the IT infrastructure in these organizations. In order to deal with the new challenges and get the benefit of the new opportunities, IT Operation Management (ITOM) is a potential concept which can be used by...
The rapid growth of Information Technology (IT) usage in enterprises has led to complex, heterogeneous, and dynamic IT system landscapes. Thus, a realization of efficient and effective application system landscapes is required, which in turn demands for a synchronization of activities and collaboration among all involved stakeholders. In this resea...
This study takes a micro standpoint to quantitatively verify the extent to which local interactions affect the expansion of dynamic social networks. By reviewing and synthesizing the theoretical literature in this article, we seek to establish a pragmatic analytical framework to capture the underlying functioning of local interactions. It then aims...
Big data and data analytics related projects are attracting researchers, practitioners, and policymakers around the globe. In order to increase the probability of a project success and to get competitive advantages, stakeholders need to have solid understanding of the main objectives, risks, requirements, and the used technologies. Environmental performance indicators (EPIs) help to measure an organization’s impact on the environment, including ecosystems, land, air and water. They clearly illustrate how the organization is performing, and provide management with the necessary information to make decisions for future improvements. This section provides a seamless and easy-to-...
Representing environmental performance indicators (EPIs) is often based on the incorporation of external data from third parties, e.g. databases or applications. A challenge on its own is the heterogeneity of the used formats and the missing of agreed upon definitions. We propose a semantic approach for addressing these issues. This approach relies...
