Project
This project proposal recognizes that every University or research center needs a, short to medium term, repository to archive valuable research data throughout the research lifecycle and for future research efforts. Research data, produced and gathered in digital format, contribute to the development of new research, fostering new approaches for data analysis and might be useful for young researchers’ training. Data repositories proposed here have a different aim and philosophy from current institutional or subject-oriented repositories intended to keep research results, based upon papers or formal publications. Therefore, CURATOR-e main objective is to provide researchers in the Social Sciences and Humanities with a Web service to deposit their research collection datasets, as well as to develop the procedures to discover, retrieve and reuse those for their researching and teaching activities. This research data repository also requires a methodological framework for identifying, describing, assessing, managing and preserving research datasets, which will be also be developed. In order to reach this main objective, CURATOR-e has these specific objectives: To locate, archive, and describe research datasets coming from research projects in Humanities and Social Sciences in Spanish public Universities. To build a collection of datasets from Spanish sources and research groups in these fields. To develop and implement an approach for acvhiving and preserving data repositories supporting a data management plan consistent with emerging EU standards. To create a pilot research dataset repository build up from large amount of datasets from each of the mentioned knowledge fields, and show them as LOD (Linked Open Data). To build an authority file mechanism for researches and research group and publish/share them as LOD vocabulary. To integrate an automatic subject metadata system, using controlled vocabularies, encoded as SKOS (Simple Knowledge Organization System) vocabularies, to improve semantic interoperability among other similar subject-oriented dataset repositories.
