Earth pipe cooling (EPC) is a type of passive cooling system that takes advantage of the nearly constant underground temperature of the Earth to cool the atmospheric air in a confined space. The efficiency of this system depends on several factors, including the size and position of the inlet pipe, the velocity of the incoming air, shape of the coo...

In this study, molecular dynamics (MD) simulations have been performed to explore the variation of ion density and electric potential due to electrode surface modification. Two different surface morphologies, having planer and slit pore with different conditions of surface charge, have been studied for graphene-MnO2 surface using LAMMPS. For differ...

Aqueous zinc (Zn)-ion batteries (AZIB) are promising candidates for the next-generation energy store systems due to their high capacity and low cost. Despite their nominal performance, Zn anodes tend to rapidly develop dendrite and fracture, leading to substantial capacity loss and cycling stability failure. Well-controlled coating using organic–in...

Shell and tube heat exchangers (STHXs) have their pioneer use in industrial applications. The scope of this work is to design and optimize shell and tube heat exchanger of five distinct material combinations to comply with the requirements of effectiveness (heat recovery) and total cost as objective functions. For this purpose; thermal design is co...
Thesis
The Electric Double Layer (EDL) supercapacitors can have extremely high-power densities, incomparable cycle life, stability, and reliability, as a result they are already used in uninterruptible power systems (UPS), memory back-up systems and even in the emergency doors of Airbus A380. Graphene-based electrodes with appropriate defects (encapsulate...

Earth pipe cooling (EPC) is one of the passive cooling systems which has proven to be a very energy efficient sustainable cooling technique for the sub-tropical areas. This cooling system uses the soil as a medium of heat transfer. Efficiency of this system largely depends on the velocity of the cooling air, shape of the cooling space, pattern of t...

Arduino has emerged as one of the most widely used, user friendly and open source platform for designing electromechanical systems. In this paper, some of Arduino based projects fabricated in laboratory by students are discussed in brief and detailed discussion on two projects showing variation in Arduino’s use from simple to the most complicated w...

Casualty of garment factory workers from factory fire in Bangladesh is a recurring tragedy. Smoke, which is more fatal than fire itself, often propagates through different pathways from lower to upper floors during building fire. Among the toxic gases produced from a building fire, carbon monoxide (CO) can be deadly, even in small amounts. This pap...

Question
Elastic properties (e.g.Young module) of surfaces are different from those of bulk systems. I would like to calculate the elastic constants of the Zn surface using VASP. Though I found well-developed tools and articles for the bulk systems, I couldn't understand how to do that for a surface.
Question
The harmonic bond style uses the potential
E = k (r - r0)2
where r0 is the equilibrium bond distance. Note that the usual 1/2 factor is included in K.
The following coefficients must be defined for each bond type via the bond_coeff command as in the example above, or in the data file or restart files read by the read_data or read_restart commands:
  • K (energy/distance^2)
  • r0 (distance)
