Introduction
I completed my BS MS dual degree from IISER Kolkata. I performed my Master’s thesis in Sanjeev Galande’s laboratory in IISER Pune, where I worked on epigenetics of hydra regeneration and zebrafish development. Thereafter I moved to Munich and started my PhD in the group of Maria-Elena Torres-Padilla as a Marie Curie Early Stage Researcher. Currently, I am trying to understand how the nuclear organization is established in the early mouse embryos.

ZnO nanoparticles of different sizes were functionalized with an amphipathic peptide and its effect on nanoparticle stabilization and UV photoprotective activity was studied. The peptide modified nanoparticles exhibited lower aggregation, significant reduction in Zn2+ leaching in vitro and even inside the cells for smaller particle sizes, reduced p...

Investigating the chromatin landscape of the early mammalian embryo is essential to understand how epigenetic mechanisms may direct reprogramming and cell fate allocation. Genome-wide analyses of the epigenome in preimplantation mouse embryos have recently become available, thanks to the development of low-input protocols. DNA adenine methyltransfe...

The Hippo signaling pathway has been shown to be involved in regulating cellular identity, cell/tissue size maintenance and mechanotransduction. The Hippo pathway consists of a kinase cascade which determines the nucleo-cytoplasmic localization of YAP in the cell. YAP is the effector protein in the Hippo pathway, which acts as a transcriptional cof...

Zygotic genome activation (ZGA) initiates regionalized transcription underlying distinct cellular identities. ZGA is dependent upon dynamic chromatin architecture sculpted by conserved DNA-binding proteins. However, the direct mechanistic link between the onset of ZGA and the tissue-specific transcription remains unclear. Here, we have addressed th...

The evolution of the first body axis in the animal kingdom and its extensive ability to regenerate makes Hydra , a Cnidarian, an excellent model system for understanding the underlying epigenetic mechanisms. We identify that monomethyltransferase SETD8 is critical for regeneration in Hydra because of its conserved interaction with β-catenin to fine...

The evolution of the first body axis in the animal kingdom and an extensive ability to regenerate makes Hydra, a Cnidarian, an excellent model system to understand the underlying epigenetic mechanisms. We identify that SETD8 is critical for regeneration, and H4K20me1 colocalizes with transcriptional activation machinery locally at the β-catenin bou...

Zygotic genome activation (ZGA) initiates regionalized transcription responsible for the acquisition of distinct cellular identities. ZGA is dependent upon dynamic chromatin architecture sculpted by conserved DNA-binding proteins. However, whether the tissue-specific transcription is mechanistically linked with the onset of ZGA is unknown. Here, we...

Androgen deprivation therapy (ADT) is still the principal treatment for advanced prostate cancer, but most tumors inevitably become castration-resistant (CRPC). Resistance to ADT is frequently associated with the emergence of androgen-independent splice variants of the androgen receptor (AR variants) that lack the AR ligand binding domain and are c...

Zinc oxide (ZnO) nanoparticles have been widely used across various fields of biology and medicine, mainly as biosensors, bioimaging agent and as an antimicrobial agent. These benefits are attributed to its wide band gap semiconductor property, feasibility to mold into various shapes and sizes and excellent UV reflencting property. However, researc...

Microbial media has undergone several changes since its inception but some key challenges remain. In recent years, there has been exploration of several alternative nutrient sources, both to cater to the specificity in requirement of growth of “fussy microorganisms” and also to reduce costs for large-scale fermentation that is required for biotechn...
