Modular construction, using steel corner-supported modular units, is an impressive and environmentally friendly construction technique. It leverages off-site factory-controlled fabrication of volumetric units, including beams, columns, braces, and their intra-connections, as well as their on-site assembly through the use of so-called inter-connecti...
Corner-supported modular steel building, made of volumetric units, is an efficient construction system for the next generation of industrialised building construction. The mechanical performance of joints, including inter-modular connections and beam-to-column connections, or so-called intra-modular connections, and their effects on the dynamic beh...
Corner-supported modular steel buildings, made of volumetric bespoke prefabricated units, are one of the most efficient construction systems for the next generation of prefabricated prefinished building construction. In these systems, the influence of connections between the units, so-called inter-connections, on the distribution of forces, moments...
The use of friction pendulum system (FPS) as a base isolation system is one of the efficient and reliable techniques for seismic response reduction of liquid storage tanks. However, recent studies have shown that the FPS may experience substantial displacements under pulse-like near-fault earthquakes, which could lead to the collision of its articu...

This paper aims to develop the fragility curves of base isolated liquid storage tanks under near-fault ground motions. Liquid storage tanks are important lifeline structures for industrial plants, but the damages from the past earthquakes showed their vulnerability. The seismic isolation technique is a promising approach to reduce the seismic deman...
Corner-supported modular structures are made of repetitive prefurnished, prefinished modular units, which are fabricated in a factory and transported to the site of a building to form a permanent building block. The modular units are then tied together through the use of so-called inter-modular connections, or inter-connections, which form a differ...
Cylindrical liquid storage tanks are vital lifeline structures, playing a critical role in industry and human life. Damages to these structures during previous earthquakes indicate their vulnerability against seismic events. A novel strategy to reduce the seismic demands in the structures is the use of metamaterials, being periodically placed in th...
As part of a research on structural response of modular buildings and assemblages, this experimental study investigates the effects of gypsum sheathed light-gauge steel stud walls on the natural dynamic characteristics of modular steel frames. A full-scale volumetric steel module is instrumented with sensitive accelerometers connected to a data acq...
In stability analysis of steel frames, the effective length method requires the calculation of the K-factors, which can be difficult and subject to error in many moment frame configurations and requires significant engineering judgment for some frame types. This is of crucial importance for the design of modular prefabricated buildings, made of vol...

Soil-structure interaction (SSI) could affect the seismic response of structures. Since liquid storage tanks are vital structures and must continue their operation under severe earthquakes, their seismic behavior should be studied. Accordingly, the seismic response of two types of steel liquid storage tanks (namely, broad and slender, with aspect r...
Soil-structure interaction (SSI) could affect the seismic response of structures. Since liquid storage tanks are vital structures and must continue their operation under severe earthquakes, their seismic behavior should be studied. Accordingly, the seismic response of liquid storage tanks founded on half space soil is scrutinized under different ea...
There are several methods to reduce the seismic damages in liquid storage tanks. One of these methods is to use passive control devices, in particular seismic base isolators. Among the different base isolation systems, the Friction Pendulum System (FPS) whose period does not depend on the weight of the system is more appropriate for isolation of li...

Hi all,
I am trying to model gap element using kelvin model in OpenSees. The problem is, the responses of time history analysis of a mass-spring structure shows that they are highly depend on the stiffness of gap and by considering high values of stiffness, i got wrong responses. all comments are welcomed.
