Introduction
I currently work at University Savoie Mont Blanc. I have two main research topics: 1- The origin and impact of body schema distorsions in psychopathology. 2- Eating disorders, with a focus on their treatment and prevention in general population.

A drastic change in one body part can result in body misestimations and consequences for motor behaviors. One hypothesis for this occurrence is a lack of body schema updating due to the rapid morphological change. However, in anorexia nervosa, a condition with weight loss and a global body change, the oversized body schema can instead be explained...
Background
Classic galactosemia is a rare inherited metabolic disease with long-term complications, particularly in the psychosocial domain. Patients report a lower quality of social life, difficulties in interactions and social relationships, and a lower mental health. We hypothesised that social cognition deficits could partially explain this psy...
Our mental representation of our body depends on integrating various sensory modalities, such as tactile information. In tactile distance estimation (TDE) tasks, participants must estimate the distance between two tactile tips applied to their skin. This measure of tactile perception has been linked to body representation assessments. Studies in in...
Distorted body representations play a major role in the onset and maintenance of Schizophrenia. However, these distortions are difficult to assess because explicit assessments can provoke intense fears about the body and require a good insight. We proposed an implicit motor imagery task to a 14-year-old girl with Early-Onset Schizophrenia. The test...
Background and Objectives
Alterations of the sensory-motor body schema question the origins of such distortions. For example, in anorexia nervosa where patients think they are broader than they really are (body image) but act as if it was really the case (body schema). To date, the results of studies about what hinders the updating of the body sche...
Confinement and isolation have negative mental health consequences. It is however unknown how the characteristics of these singular situations interact with psychological vulnerability factors in the development of psychological disorders.
The present study was designed to test the extent to which trait anxiety is a predictor of the level of repeti...
No...
Adolescent girls with anorexia nervosa suffer from body image-related disorders associated with an intense fear of gaining weight or being too fat, even when they have reached a weight far less than what is required for their age and height. This misperception of being too fat, associated with significant body dissatisfaction are symptoms of concer...
A person’s internal representation of his/her body is not fixed. It can be substantially modified by neurological injuries and can also be extended (in healthy participants) to incorporate objects that have a corporeal appearance (such as fake body segments, e.g. a rubber hand), virtual whole bodies (e.g. avatars), and even objects that do not have...

Induction of emotions which trigger a heuristic information processing might be a valuable tool for improve judgment on one’s own body in anorexia nervosa (Metral Mailliez, 2018) but also in women suffering from body image issue
Background
Patients with anorexia nervosa often report a conscious alteration of body image representation, with both body overestimation and body dissatisfaction. Cognitive and behavioural therapy is effective for treating many psychiatric disorders but often fails to treat anorexia nervosa and body image distortions. Although patients are aware o...
Background
The well-known rubber hand paradigm induces an illusion by having participants feel the touch applied to a fake hand. In parallel, the kinesthetic mirror illusion elicits illusions of movement by moving the reflection of a participant's arm. Experimental manipulation of sensory inputs leads to emergence of these multisensory illusions. T...
Raw data for both the kinesthetic mirror illusion and the rubber hand illusion.
Position sense and kinaesthesia are mainly derived from the integration of somaesthetic and visual afferents to form a single, coherent percept. However, visual information related to the body can play a dominant role in these perceptual processes in some circumstances, and notably in the mirror paradigm. The objective of the present study was to d...
Recent studies of both healthy and patient populations have cast doubt on the mirror paradigm's beneficial effect on motor behaviour. Indeed, the voluntary arm displacement that accompanies reflection in the mirror may be the determining factor in terms of the motor behaviour of the contralateral arm. The objective of the present study was to asses...
Background
People with anorexia nervosa (AN) usually report feeling broader than they really are. The objective of the present study was to better understand the body schema's involvement in this false self-representation in AN. We tested the potential for correction of the body schema impairment via the sensorimotor feedback provided by a real, ex...
Although kinesthesia is known to largely depend on afferent inflow, recent data suggest that central signals originating from volitional control (efferent outflow) could also be involved and interact with the former to build up a coherent percept. Evidence derives from both clinical and experimental observations where vision, which is of primary im...
Behavioural therapy and bariatric surgery often produce rapid, massive body weight loss that may impact a patient's ability to gauge his/her new body shape. Although the patient is aware of the weight loss, he/she continues to feel obese, as if there was a conflict between the previous body schema and the new one. Here, we report the case of a 40-y...
