O presente trabalho tem como objetivo o estudo do concelho de Braga, inserido na região Norte e quanto à sua história e ao seu crescimento muito há a dizer. O norte do país caracteriza-se por ser uma zona de NUTS II – Comissões de Coordenação Regional e Regiões Autónomas -, e que compreende os distritos de Viana do Castelo, Braga, Porto, Vila Real e Bragança. Terá sido nesta região do país que se começaram a formar os primeiros povoados fortificados, da pré-história, havendo em todo o norte vestígios documentados que revelam a ocupação humana nesta região, como por exemplo o que corresponde, atualmente, ao município de Braga.
