This study assesses modular concrete Prefabricated Prefinished Volumetric (PPVC) with concrete individual panel system (IPS) concrete construction method. This mode of construction is still nascent in many countries. Therefore, the environmental and economic impacts of PPVC concr...
Malaysia is located in a low seismicity area, thus the buildings in Malaysia were not designed as seismic resistant structures. However, on 5 June 2015, Malaysian was been shocked by the 5.9M Ranau Earthquake which killed 18 climbers of 5 nationalities and was recorded as the largest earthquake in Malaysia since 1976. The earthquake affected some b...
Groundwater resources benefits to human activity for developing country. Groundwater contamination is crucial, particularly due to the amount of leakage and spillage of hydrocarbon liquids such as light non-aqueous phase liquids (LNAPLs), resulting in contaminated the groundwater and unsafe for domestic and agriculture activities. Penetration of hy...
In recent years, off-site volumetric construction has been promoted as a viable strategy for improving the sustainability of the construction industry. Most prefabricated prefinished volumetric construction (PPVC) structures are composed of either steel or concrete; thus, it is imperative to carry out life cycle assessments (LCAs) for both types of...
Groundwater contamination is crucial, particularly due to hydrocarbon liquid leakages. Additionally, the vibration impact affects the migration of hydrocarbon through the subsurface soil to the groundwater surface which is causes by the dynamic stress that is imposed on the soils. Therefore, this paper presents the investigation and discussions on...

Steel structure industrial building is one of the important structures that needs to be examined as these structures can have huge impact on the surrounding areas. Therefore, this study presents the fragility curves and performance curves of steel structure in...
Recently, numerous natural disaster events have occurred in various parts of the world. Bridges are one of the most critical structures to be examined to check for defects resulting from disaster events like earthquakes. Therefore, the serviceability of the structure is important to maintain the safety of users. Thus, the main objective of this wor...
Groundwater contaminations due to hydrocarbon or organic solvent spills in saturated or unsaturated zones affect the water resources. The quantity of hydrocarbon spills in the groundwater might influence the hydrocarbon migration. In addition, the soil moisture content in influencing the rate of migration is also unknown. Therefore, this paper pres...
Standardization of building process in medical sectors has provided the ground for specialization levels, ensuring the future buildings will have better quality. The life span of Health Centers in Iran is only one quarter of same building in other countries, which leads to extra cost for both structure and non-structure (hospital facilities & equip...
Flood risk is increasing in Malaysia specifically around river which influencing of climate change. The aim of this study is assessing the vulnerability of building materials by revealing the degree of loss for each structure. There are most five common materials has been assessing namely: brick, concrete block, steel wall panels, wooden wall and p...
Vibrations from vehicle traffic, machinery and operations from construction activities such as blasting are examples of some natural and man-made vibration phenomenon’s that can cause dynamic stress when imposed onto soils. In order to ensure sustainability of the geo-environment, the impacts caused by these vibrations as well as the changes in moi...
In engineering practice, natural and man-made vibration phenomenon can cause dynamic stress to be imposed on soils such as blasting, construction operations and machinery, and vehicle traffic vibrations. This issue need to be addressed to ensure the geo-environment is sustainably secure. Laboratory experiments were conducted to characterize the beh...
Structures such as buildings, bridges and towers are prone to collapse when natural phenomena like earthquake occurred. Therefore, many design codes are reviewed and new technologies are introduced to resist earthquake energy especially on building to avoid collapse. The tuned mass damper is one of the earthquake reduction products introduced on st...
Earthquakes in Malaysia, such as 2008 Bukit Tinggi and 2015 Ranau Earthquake, have caused Malaysian authorities to look into the importance of seismic design for their buildings and bridges. The lack of information in British Standard (BS) about seismic activity is because the seismic hazard is very low in the British region, hence, the design of b...
Earthquake vibration is a natural disasters that needs to be addressed in ensuring the geo-environment is sustainable secure. A physical laboratory model was conducted to characterize the phenomena of vibrated deformable double-porosity. The double-porosity soil characteristic is formed by aggregating kaolin soil with distinct moisture content. A v...
Microtremor array measurement surveys were performed in three locations to determine the shear wave velocity profile down to a depth of 30 m. The shear wave velocity results from the data acquisition of the multichannel surface wave method were compared with the microtremor array measurement in terms of the shear wave velocity profile as a function...
The incidence of natural disasters has recently occurred in Malaysia. Earthquake vibration is a problem that needs to be addressed in ensuring the environment is sustainable safe. A physical experiment model was conducted to characterize the physical phenomena of deformable double-porosity. The double-porosity soil characteristic is formed by aggre...
The problems that occur regarding dynamic loading on tower structure have been a great concern for a very long time. Due to the impact of the nearest active seismic activity zone, the high rise buildings in Malaysia may be at risk if no structural retrofitting scheme is performed on the structure. The Tuned Mass Damper (TMD) is found to be a good e...
The development of bridge design in Malaysia has experienced several changes in its approaches. Bridge inspection identifies the current conditions and the problems in the bridge but seismic vulnerability identifies the expected potential of seismic hazards of a bridge due to lateral seismic forces. The influences and effects of the Sumatran earthq...
Earthquake is one of the most devastating natural disasters on earth. Earthquake effects can cover hundreds of thousands of square kilometers; cause damage to structures or infrastructures facilities, result in loss of life and injury to hundreds of thousands of people, and disrupt the social and economic functioning of the affected area. Usually t...
Concrete plate form many part of structures nowadays. As part of the Structural Health Monitoring (SHM), early damage detection in the structures is vital to assess the severity of the damages and remaining life. Damage in the concrete usually begin with crack initiation. This paper presented a study on new method of crack detection in concrete pla...
Base isolator in bridges has faced numerous transformations on the materials used and its design, especially to isolate horizontal forces, such as earthquakes. Hence, in order to gain better comprehension over the behaviour of different bearing designs of seismic isolation, a finite element analysis had been carried out in this study. The normal pr...
Damages to tunnel based on excessive deformation can be due to axial and curvature deformations when seismic waves propagate either parallel or obliquely to the tunnel. The ovaling or racking deformations of a tunnel structure may develop when waves propagate in a direction perpendicular or nearly perpendicular to the tunnel axis, resulting in a di...
