Statistical analysts can encounter difficulties in obtaining point and interval estimates for fixed effects when sample sizes are small and there are two or more error strata to consider. Standard methods can lead to certain variance components being estimated as zero which often seems contrary to engineering experience and judgement. Shell Global...

Background Globally, tuberculosis (TB) remains one of the top 10 causes of deaths and the leading cause from a single infectious agent. Delayed TB diagnosis and/or treatment may result in the transmission of bacilli, increasing infectivity, the risk of severe disease states, morbidity and mortality. Industrial experimental design is an important area under design of experiments and factorial design hold a firm place in industrial experiments. The generalization of factorial designs results in split-plot type designs when complete randomization of runs is not possible. More specifically, hard-to-set factors lead naturally to split-plot type des...

Question
I got a data set and codes as follows to estimate a variance component. In the data set "y" is the response, "fuel" has fixed and "day" has random effects in the linear mixed model. I can estimate random effect due to "day" and there is no option to have a p-value corresponding to the estimate of random effect. How can I estimate the p-value? Is there any other package for that? Any answer would be appreciated much.
day<-c(1, 1, 2, 2, 3, 3)
fuel<-c(1,1,1,2,2,2)
y<-c(32.32048, 32.28583, 31.97912, 33.61024, 33.33915, 33.63342)
