Use of satellite images to detect hydrothermal alteration zones can be helpful for efficient mineral explorations. Remote Sensing (RS) techniques make it possible to save cost and time for accurate primary explorations. The purpose of this research is to use the image processing techniques to detect porphyry copper minerals through the index of hyd...
Geotourism implicitly implies geologic and geomorphologic characteristics as the base for tourism/recreation activities and geographic situations. The Lut desert and its environmental system have many potential and outstanding universal values including the highest and longest yardangs (kaluts) and very high sand dunes and nebkhas. It is necessary...
Abstract
Most of the human societies are experiencing increasing losses of flood hazard each year. Flood inundation mapping is useful for flood mitigation and risk reduction. To detect flood inundation areas, a novel GIS-based model has been developed in the present work. This model makes it possible to calculate the height difference of floodplai...
This research has attempted to measure the parameters of barchan dunes as one of the desert landforms. This has been conducted by a field survey using cartographic techniques. In the field, two barchan dunes have completely been surveyed by total station equipment. Using the sample points a novel method has been devised to measure the barchans para...
Construction of a causeway bridge on the Lake Urmia accelerated the drying trend of the largest hyper-saline lake of the world. The objective of the research is to investigate the differences of precipitation and river discharge before and after initiation of the construction of the bridge in 2000. The study area was the watershed of the lake. The...
Dust storms are one of the main environmental challenges, particularly in West Asian Region. The phenomenon has great harmful impacts on the countries of the region including Iran, Iraq, Syria, Kuwait, and other countries around Persian Gulf. Intensification of the phenomenon in recent years made it necessary to find a suitable solution to combat a...

In coastal areas, hydrodynamic factors make changes in shorelines geomorphology. This can affect coastal facilities and cause hazards to human societies in the areas. This study has investigated the influence of wave and tide properties on Khamir Port, Hormoz Strait in coast of Persian Gulf. The purpose of the study is to make a mathematical region...
Geomorphology is briefly the study of landforms and their formative processes on the surface of the planet earth as human habitat. The landforms evolution and the formative processes can best be studied by technologies with main application in study of elevation. Interferometric Synthetic Aperture Radar (InSAR) is the appropriate technology for thi...
The study investigates the ability of thermal remote sensing in identification of seismic active areas. The thermal characteristics of Land Surface Temperature (LST) represent changes before strong earthquakes. The objective of this research is to find the relationship between earthquake active areas and thermal properties of earth surface. Landsat...
Human population growth and consequent spatial distribution of human society requires application of new technologies for safety issues. Risk assessment is necessary to mitigate harmful consequences of possible devastating earthquakes on the human societies. A novel method is presented in this study to be applied as a criterion for the assessment....
Earth and Mars travel in neighboring orbits around the sun. Both are rocky planets, but only the earth has the conditions to support life on. Is such a great difference due to their surface temperatures? It is obvious that the surface temperatures of these planets are governed by two factors of: (a) the amount of energy they receive from the sun an...
Increase in salt concentration may have adverse environmental and economic consequences. The Lake Umia is the largest hypersaline lake in the world that is rapidly drying. The drying leaves salt layers in a belt around the shore of the lake. These layers can be source of many damages to the human and the environment. The objective of this research...
The altitude to which the past glaciers had been extended during the last glacial period in Dinevar Baisn, western Iran, can be estimated based on glacier-geomorpic evidence such as cirques, U-shaped valleys, and the moraines in lowlands. This study estimates the elevation of snowline during this period for the basin as the objective of the researc...
Natural climatic conditions in urban areas can be changed by human physical environment. Climate as a natural system and city as a human system have close mutual connections. Urban population growth and consequent increase in urban physical expansion may lead to intensification in human activities and disturbances in the environment. This contribut...

The natural drainage system could be used for management of urban flooding in Tehran City, the capital of Iran. Disregarding the natural drainage networks during urban development has caused flooding issues in this city. The purpose of the study is to find the areas where watercourses are incompetent for flood control. The HydroModel tool was appli...

To select sites for ecotourism facilities in Miankaleh Peninsula, the study used multi-criteria evaluation (MCE). In the Peninsula, ecotourism is in its incipient stage of expansion. It is essential to identify, in advance, suitable sites for the facilities as the objective of this research. Thus, three sets of environmental, economic, and geodata...

Dear friends and colleagues

I am searching the studies with distance buffer values for flood criteria.
Some factors such as distance to road and to facilities are influential in price of land. Can anyone tell me what are environmental factors that can affect the price of land?
How can we differentiate between natural factors and other economic factors that determine the price of lands? there are a plenty of factors that determine land price not in cities. it seems difficult to distinguish them or measure the effects of variables. I want to know some methodologies to find and measure these natural factors without including human factors such as distance to facilities or urban areas.

UN Environment has published the “Global Assessment of Sand and Dust Storms”, jointly written by UNEP, World Meteorological Organization and United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification. The report, with foreword by the UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-Moon, has been included in the documentation of the 71st session of the UN General Assembly. SDS-WAS participants have contributed to this report: http://sds-was.aemet.es/news/global-assessment-of-sand-and-dust-storms
