Introduction
His research mainly focuses on Insect Taxonomy and Insect Physiology. He has expertise in rearing of insects in lab conditions. The research in insect taxonomy is mainly concentrated on Hemiptera order of insects (Family Cicadellidae). He received the ICAR-IARI Merit medal as well as Dr. S Guruprasad Pradhan Gold medal during 61st Convocation of ICAR-Indian Agricultural Research Institute, New Delhi for his excellent academic, research work records from his Ph.D. programme.

The present study reported a new bamboo- feeding leafhopper genus, Bambusimukaria Yang, Chen and Li, (2016) for the first time from Medziphema, Nagaland, India. Earlier Bambusimukaria had been described from China. The description is based on female genitalia of species B. quinquepunctata and illustrations of female habitus and genitalia are provid...
The leafhopper species, Mukaria splendida Distant, is economically important due to its sta-
tus as a pest on bamboo and was recently reported to be a vector for phytoplasmal disease. Mor-
phological identification is often difficult and requires a high level of taxonomic expertise, with mis-
identifications causing problematic false-positive/negat...
Mirid bug has become challenging pest infesting bottle gourd crop at Haryana state and Delhi NCR region in India. The feeding punctures caused on fruits due to bugs appears to be light reddish brown spots/blister, leading to blemished fruits which often fail to fetch a good market price. In the present study, we have endowed the species diagnosis (...
The coelidiinae leafhopper genus Baseprocessa Fan & Li is newly recorded from India based on the description of B. patkaensis Meshram sp. nov. and a proposed new combination, B. serratispatulata (Viraktamath & Meshram) comb. nov. Materials are deposited in the National Pusa Collection, Division of Entomology, ICAR-Indian Agricultural Research Insti...
A new bamboo leafhopper species, Myittana (Myittana) bidentata sp. nov. is described and illustrated from India (Pantnagar, Uttarakhand). The new species is similar to Myittana (Myittana) distincta but can be distinguished by its large size (7.8 mm long) and the male genital structure. An annotated species checklist of the genus and key to species...
A new genus of bamboo feeding leafhopper, Bambuphaga n. gen. (Hemiptera: Cicadellidae: Delcephalinae) with Bambuphaga balajii n. sp. from India (Andhra Pradesh) as the type species is described, illustrated, placed in the tribe Punctulini and an annotated checklist to the tribe is provided. The type specimens and material examined are deposited in...
Earhead worm Autoba silicula (Swinhoe, 1897) (Lepidoptera: Erebidae) is recorded for the first time in India on maize. Larvae were found feeding on maturing grains and silk, fully fed matured larvae pupates under a dome shaped or elongated galleries made of silk inside the cob. Roving survey conducted during 2019 and 2020 recorded on an average 0.4...
A new leafhopper species, Mukariella viraktamathi sp. nov., is described from India along with a distinct morphological variant. Illustrations of males and female are provided. An annotated species checklist of the genus and key to species of the genus Mukariella are also provided.
The study is mainly focused on the morphology of different stages i.e., egg, larvae, pupa and adult. The head capsule measurements (widest head width) were taken by use of Stereozoom binocular microscope. The beet armyworm undergoes 5 instars with a maximum and minimum head width of 0.26 ± 0.01 and 1.70 ± 0.05 mm respectively. The head capsule widt...
Comparative biology of rice swarming caterpillar Spodoptera mauritia Boisduval has been analysed in this study. It was observed that rearing it on the artificial diets (chickpea flour based diets) was the most favourable with shortest larval period of 20.00± 0.51 days, whereas, those fed with rice leaves were 23.00± 0.52 days. The number of eggs la...
Thrips parvispinus, a member of the “Thrips orientalis group” is commonly called Tobacco thrips,
Taiwanese thrips, and South East Asian Thrips. Thrips parvispinus has been documented from Thailand
to Australia (Mound and Collins, 2000). It is reported on papaya in Hawaii, Gardenia sp. in Greece, and
vegetable crops like Capsicum, green beans, potat...
International trade and the movement of people are largely responsible for the unintentional introductions of many exotic insect pests to new environments. There are many pathways through which these insects invade like plants, seeds and cuttings, logs, wood chips, processed wood containers, vehicles, machinery, marine and air vessels, travelers wi...
The study of immature stage of insects is very important in agricultural entomology, because the identification of insect pest is a crucial step in integrated pest management to take up any control measure and because it is the stage in insect life most frequently damaging on crop (caterpillars). The immature stage of insect consists of the egg, ny...
Prolonged dry conditions followed by heavy rains leads to outbreak of Swarming Caterpillar ( Spodoptera mauritia) in paddy
Insects are beautiful creatures in nature and
found in every environment on Earth. Many
insects are considered to be pests by
humans. However, some insects are crucial
components of several ecosystems,
performing many important functions such
as pollination, decomposition etc. besides
beneficial insects producing useful
substances, such as...
Raising kids is a great deal of work; it will
take a lot of energy to provide food and
defend helpless offspring. So, brood
parasites trick someone else into doing it for
them. This type of breeding strategy is well
observed in birds, such as cuckoos or the
brown-headed cowbird, but in insects the
brood parasitism is very often. One of the...
Prolongs of lepidopteron larvae have a small circle of gripping hooks, called "crochets". Which play an important role in diagnosing an insect species. Inorder to observe arrangement of crochets in four species of Spodoptera, which include S. litura (Fabricius), S. mauritia (Boisduva), S. exigua (Hubner) and the recent introduction S. frugiperda (J...

Biology, morphometrics and growth of Spodoptera mauritia was studied by rearing Spodoptera mauritia under laboratory conditions during August 2017. The study was mainly focused on observing morphology of different stages i.e., egg, larva, pupa and adult along with duration, S. mauritia had six instars. Measurements of all the stages of insect life...
Seasonal incidence of Rice swarming caterpillar, Spodoptera mauritia Boisd. Infesting paddy was recorded during June to August 2017, at Regional Agricultural Research Station, Warangal, and Telangana, India. Study revealed that the no incidence of Rice swarming caterpillar, (0.00 caterpillar/tray) was observed during 1 st week of August (31 st Stan...

The study was mainly focused on observing morphology of different stages i.e., egg, larva, pupa and adult along with the duration, S. litura had five instars.
