Immortelle (Helichrysum italicum, Asteraceae) essential oil has been widely used in alternative medicine to accelerate wound healing, as well as in cosmetic products to stimulate skin regeneration and to reduce the appearance of wrinkles. It is also considered a natural and safe culinary spice that could also be applied in the food industry as a pr...

Herein, the results of the first study of non-flavonoid constituents of aboveground surface-wax washings of Primula veris L. (Primulaceae) are presented. Chromatography of the washings yielded a minor fraction composed of n-, iso-, and anteiso-series of long-chained syn-1-phenylalkane-1,3-diyl diacetates, 3-oxo-1-phenylalkan-1-yl acetates, 1-phenyl...
Article
Herein n ‐, iso ‐ and anteiso ‐series of very‐long‐chained (VLC) alkanes (C 21 ‒C 35 ), fatty acid benzyl esters (FABEs; C 20 ‒C 32 ), and 2‐alkanones (C 23 ‒C 35 ) were identified in the wax of Primula veris L. and P. acaulis (L.) L. (Primulaceae). For the very first time in a sample of natural origin, the presence of iso ‐ and anteiso ‐VLC FABEs...

Esters of angelic, senecioic and tiglic acids with various saturated/ unsaturated/aromatic alcohols contribute to the aroma of many essential oils. However, mass spectrometry with electron-impact ionization sometimes fails to distinguish these regio-/geometric isomers and this was the case with the minor constituent of Helichrysum italicum (immorte...

Reduction of ?-diketones with lithium aluminum hydride (LiAlH4, LAH) can lead to different products, depending on the tautomeric equilibrium: the reduction of diketo forms gives the corresponding diols and the reduction of ketoenol forms yields elimination products, saturated and unsaturated ketones and alcohols. Here, we report on the results of L...

The essential oil of immortelle, Helichrysum italicum (Asteraceae), has a long application for wound healing. Nowadays, it is one of the most popular essential oils in cosmetics as it may stimulate blood circulation and regeneration of the skin, and reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. However, several chemotypes of H. italicum, charac...

Streptomyces sp. NP10 was previously shown to synthesize large amounts of free fatty acids (FFAs). In this work, we report the first insights into the biosynthesis of these fatty acids (FAs) gained after genome sequencing and identification of the genes involved. Analysis of the Streptomyces sp. NP10 draft genome revealed that it is closely related...

The usage of St. John's worth, Hypericum perforatum L. (HP), Hypericaceae, more specifically of the non-volatile constituents of the plant, in the treatment of a variety of health disorders, is well known. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of the essential oil of HP on the behaviour of mice in several standard anxiety models. The ess...

The usage of St. John's worth, Hypericum perforatum L., Hypericaceae, (abbreviated as HP), more specifically of the non-volatile constituents of the plant, in the treatment of a variety of health disorders, is well known, while its predominant usage for the management of depression is best documented. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effec...

Herein, a novel soil bacterium Streptomyces sp. NP10 able to grow outside usual streptomycetes optimum conditions (e.g., at Q1 4 °C, pH 9 and high NaCl concentration), exhibiting atypical hemolytic, DNAse, and cellulolytic activities, is described. This strain produces and excretes into the growth medium large amounts of free long-chain fatty acids...

Project
The project encompasses natural products chemistry, both the analysis and synthesis (with an emphasis on the synthesis part), the development of heterogeneous catalysts for various reactions and biological activity testing. We aim to create a large set of compounds possibly biologically active that would be obtained either by classical chemistry or by synthesis over appropriate catalysts.
