The attention is focused to the sophisticated monitoring of bridges, which is mainly based on repeated measurements of the dynamic response. In Slovakia at present there is no coordinated system created. The project will lay the basis for monitoring of important bridges. Methodology will be developed for the system identification (SI) and subsequent monitoring (structural health monitoring - SHM) for selected continuous reinforced concrete bridges, steel bridges and some special types of larger span bridges.
The project will use radar tracking (IBIS-S system) and dynamic testing laboratory for the dynamic response tests. Some of the procedures and methods of identification will be verified on scale models in the laboratory. Numerical analyses of structures using the finite element method will be performed and calibrated by the experiment. For typical bridge structures new software will be developed for the evaluation of dynamic experiments and subsequent SHM. A basic database of several bridges will be created along with their initialization measurements for long-term SI. An automated measuring system will be developed for a selected structure.
The project will also serve as a training base and expertise to students, post-graduates and young scientists of technology oriented universities in Slovakia and abroad.
