Introduction
I am an academic teacher with 20+ years of experience in education & research. My education interests range from academic writing, communication, presentations, descriptive grammar, phonetics, linguistics, game design & gamification. I belong to a group introducing new technologies & gamification in higher education. My research concentrates around semiotics and pragmatics, especially proxemics. I supported teacher development by attending and organising conferences, workshops, and study visits.

On one hand gamification has been around for 20 years, but on the other, we are just learning how to recognise well-gamified courses and then apply them as ready-made solutions for thousands of teachers. The aim of this article is, therefore, at least twofold: first it attempts at presenting gamification in education for what it is, and not what ma...

Gamification seems to solve all our problems in education. Students become engaged and motivated -- they learn so much more than in the traditional system. Students do not want to learn. Let’s face it. They do not want to learn - they want to know… Here and now! The sooner we realise this simple fact the better for us. And for our students. However, having understood this truth does not change our path at the slightest. Students still need to learn, and we still need to teach. After all, the promised...

As probably most of my fellow teachers I have no choice but to train my students into handling particular groups of vocabulary, using particular grammatical structures, into speaking on preselected subjects. Both me and my students find joy in those lessons when the topic or some current news spur the discussion. But there are times when talking ab...

Modern education faces numerous problems: demographic decline, technological fads, economical crises, devaluation of diplomas, etc. Gamification seems to provide solutions by accommodating the drive towards modern technologies and fun through such elements as immediate feedback, positive motivation, challenges, customised environment, scalable achi...

Gamification is a new trend in Polish education, despite its long traditions in the western world. To those who become acquainted with this method of organising courses and various institutions, words game, fun, and amusing humbug come to mind. However, gamification does not have to mean introducing games to schools, and may be limited to changing...

Z jednej strony szkoły podstawowe i średnie wdra...

Each time 'discourse' is used as a term for a collection of interrelated texts there is a need for a specific unifying element like profession of users, their culture, or time and place of uttering particular phrases. In recent years cities have become the prime and combining factor for some discourses. Too often the place, a town or a city, is tre...
