Saimiri cassiquiarensis cassiquiarensis (Cebidae) is a primate subspecies with a wide distribution in the Amazonian region of Brazil, Colombia, and Venezuela. However, the boundaries of its geographic range remain poorly defined. This study presents new occurrence localities for this subspecies and updates its distribution using a compiled data set...
The rare bushy-tailed opossum, Glironia venusta , is known from only 12 records in Brazil, four of which from the state of Pará. Here, we provide two new records from western Pará, and the first observations of the species in the Tapajós-Xingu interfluve. In one case, the feeding behavior of the species was also recorded.
The state of Tocantins is located in Central Brazil. The northern extreme of this state corresponds to the southeastern portion of the Amazon biome, while it is covered primarily by Cerrado savanna, as well as the transition area between these two biomes. We provide a checklist of large- and medium-bodied mammals from four localities in Tocantins,...
Saimiri collinsi is a primate that occurs in the Amazon biome and recently was elevated to species status. Despite being an abundant and widespread species, S. collinsi distributional limits are still unknown in the transitional region between Amazon and Cerrado biomes. Here we provide 25 new records for the species, obtained through field observat...
The squirrel monkey, Saimiri, is a pan-Amazonian Pleistocene radiation. We use statistical phylogeographic methods to create a mitochondrial DNA-based timetree for 118 squirrel monkey samples across 68 localities spanning all Amazonian centers of endemism, with the aim of better understanding (1) the effects of rivers as barriers to dispersal and d...
