The European honey buzzard Pernis apivorus is a summer visitor in Europe, wintering mostly in West-central Africa. Previous studies concerning timing of autumn migration in relation to sex groups provided contrasting results. In particular, a field survey made in southern Sweden did not report differences in timing, while a satellite study via GPS...

Climate and land-use change are the most severe threats to biodiversity; their effects are often intermingled, also with those of landscape/habitat management. Birds of mountain grassland are declining throughout Europe. Disentangling climate effects from those of land-cover and management on their occurrence is essential to identify distribution d...

The selection of relevant factors and appropriate spatial scale(s) is fundamental when modelling species response to climate change. We evaluated whether the effects of climate factors on species distribution/occurrence are consistently modelled over different spatial scales in birds, and used a two‐scale approach to identify species‐climate correl...

We are carrying on a field research at the Strait of Messina (Southern Italy) using radar equipment and visual observations to collect data on bird migration both during day and night. The migration of birds at this site is relevant in spring as well as during autumn. During the day tens of thousands raptors are observed each season, while during the night the migratory flow of passerines is impressive. We are analysing the Influence of weather, time of the day, flock size and specie-specific differences on the migratory flow of birds.
