Introduction
Digital geographer struggling with internet as a spatial phenomenon, human spatial behavior and Critical GIS , especially in the context of public participation. Currently working on AR, VR and algorithmic production of space. In past I dabbled in a lot things, most of which were related to physical geography – changes in sea level, coastal sediments, laser particle size measurement methods.

Virtual geographical environments (VGEs) are being used to represent our sense of place through the application of extended-reality or cross-reality (XR) technologies with a focus on technological advancement and immersion. In light of this, we propose that an expanded and interdisciplinary understanding of the concept of immersion is required to f...

During the first months of the COVID-19 pandemic many governments imposed forced lockdowns and implemented social distancing measures. At the same time there was also a large increase in gaming sales, which was particularly pronounced in the Virtual Reality (VR) sector of the market. We hypothesize that this is no coincidence since VR immersion and...

The emergence of Virtual Reality (VR) as a viable consumer medium for gaming offers an opportunity to reconceptualise understandings of immersion, embodiment and presence in gaming. However, many of the discourses and attempts to conceptualise experience in VR games conflate these terms rather than understanding each as a state of engagement with a...

Modern mobile devices are replete with advanced sensors that expand the array of possible methods of locating users. This can be used as a tool to gather and use spatial information, but it also brings with it the specter of "geosurveillance" in which the "location" becomes a product in itself. In the realm of software developers, space/place has b...

Code and software actively influence space and social behavior in our increasingly smart cities. But to what extent? And how? In our project we want to critically investigate the process of location-based augmented reality (AR) and Virtual Reality (VR) software development and implementation in the cultural and geographical context and to asses the role of algorithmic power in the urban space.
Project
The main aimof the project is to use the approach offered by the geography of communication in an attempt to solve the cognitive problem of defining the contemporary character of generic places, the role they play in human life and the way they are perceived (received) by the users. I intend to achieve this aim in cooperation with my team, developing and operationalizing the communicationa lapproach to the discussion about space and place, as proposed by Paul Adams (2005, 2009). The main aim encompasses individual theoretical-methodological and empirical aims. The individual aimscan be divided into Theoretical-methodological (AT):AT1.Developing the communicational approach in geography towards the study of a "place" (in our case generic places);AT2.Defining the contemporary status of the theories representing the generic places approach in the context of current communication theories based on geography (including the network media science);AT3. Operationalizing communication geography conceptions and their application in interdisciplinary empirical research on the spatial category of generic places.Empirical (AE):AE1.Identifying the type of the communication content of generic places and the communication contexts potentially represented by generic places, as well as the public reception of this content; AE2.Recognizing the share of the Internet in constructing the content and contexts of potential generic places, as well as in evoking public reactions.
