Does an entity conducting medical experiments in Germany have to be insured against civil liability? Such a need exists in Poland and I'd like to know whether the same applies to Germany. Thanks for your help!
Hello Everyone,
I'm looking for a statistician to collaborate under a meta-analysis manuscript. Interested to join our research team? Please let me know on priv: michal.karbownik@umed.lodz.pl
Russia ruthlessly invaded Ukraine and far-reaching sanctions were imposed on Russia in many areas. Should the research community proceed in the same way by closing journals to Russian manuscripts, not accepting to review Russian manuscripts, not citing papers by Russian scientists, block cooperation with Russian colleagues, etc.?
1) Such solution could fit the model of overall sanctions; the affected scientists could pressure the government to stop the war. But:
2) Russian scientists may be overwhelmingly not involved in politics and the war itself; their work may be honest and very likely consistent with good scientific practice; as a result the sanctions could just make their research and inventions more difficult with no effect on the war.
I would like to here your opinion on this topic...
This has been already more than a half of a year that COVID-19 vaccine is available (Comirnaty). There appears robust data suggesting its safety as obtained from medical event reports from vaccinated people (https://www.ema.europa.eu/en/documents/covid-19-vaccine-safety-update/covid-19-vaccine-safety-update-comirnaty-14-july-2021_en.pdf). However, majority of data is observational and this is difficult to suggest causality. Meanwhile, the randomised controlled trial (RCT) paper, that reported the initial data on Comirnaty ( ), declared a two-year follow-up safety monitoring. And RCT would be indeed an ideal research setting to investigate causality.
Is there any report of long-term safety of Comirnaty (or other) COVID-19 vaccine that is based on RCT results?
Clarivate announced today an updated list of journals' impact factors for 2020. Many journals presented unprecedented growth of ca. 15-30%. Eg. 'NEJM' from 74.7 to 91.2, 'Nature' from 42.8 to 50.0, but also middle class journals as 'Nutrients' from 4.6 to 5.7 or 'BMC Complement Altern Med' from 2.8 to 3.7. Please share your opinion on why there is such a growth in impact factor? Is it only this year phenomenon (COVID?) or should we expect further rise (or maybe drop) in impact factors in the next year?
