I divide my time between the study of cultural behavior and social learning (macaques, chimpanzees), animal self-medication, host - parasite ecology (chimpanzees, macaques, baboons), reproductive behavior, physiology, habitat utilization (Japanese, rhesus macaques, Semnopithecus spp.), and phylogeography (toque macaque, purple-faced langur, grey langur). This work is or has been conducted in Japan, Italy, Tanzania, Uganda, Guinea, South Africa, Sri Lanka, India, Taiwan, Bangladesh and Vietnam.
