Sports are ubiquitous in American society, and given their prominence in the culture, it is easy to understand how most youth in the United States face pressure to participate in organized sports. But what does this mean for the hundreds of thousands of Americans who live with one or more physical disabilities and, in particular, those in powered w...

In 2008, MySpace was one of the world’s top Internet destinations. Behind only Google and Yahoo in Internet traffic in America, it was the most popular social networking site (SNS) with some 300,000 profiles being added daily. Although MySpace would soon be supplanted in the SNS world by the likes of Facebook and Twitter, it still has over 50 milli...

Question
RG does not have Tout Moun: The Caribbean Journal of Cultural Studies (https://journals.sta.uwi.edu/toutmoun/index.asp) in its database. How to add?
Question
I wanted to ask if anyone could share with me their syllabus for an organizational communication course?  I am teaching a post-grad course on it for the first time, but it will be taught more like an upper-level undergraduate course for various reasons.  The course description emphasizes understanding and applying theory.  My initial thoughts are to create a pool of applicable communication/leadership theories and have students do presententations each week on them. I am thinking for them to work in groups of 2-3 and each group presents a theory each week for the first few class meetings. After that the only thing I have in mind  is to get them to read case studies and make applications. I am also toying with the idea of having them create memos and press releases and possibly make oral statements for various scenarios, some related to marketing and some to crisis communication/brand management.
I would appreciate any advice and resources that anyone could send my way. You can e-mail me directly at msjeffress at gmail dot com.
Question
For a research methods course Is it okay to let students do a pilot study that includes some interviewing without going through the IRB process? The problem I am facing is that IRB approval can take well over a month at my institution. My students will not be in a position to pick a topic or even know how to put a proposal together until several weeks into the semester. I would love to hear the approach others take.
Question
I am teaching a qualitative research methods course for the first time at a post-graduate level. The field is communication studies, but studies in the area of sociology will work, too. I welcome colleagues to share syllabi and recommendations for open-access articles that could be utilized for assigned readings.
