This doctoral project empirically examines English-language academic journals in the humanities and social sciences (HSS) in Mainland China. Through interviews with journal editors and document analysis, it aims to depict a national scenario of HSS English-language journals in China, and explore their efforts and predicaments in bringing China's research to the world under a context of global knowledge asymmetries. Different strategies and struggles of three specific journals as cases are also investigated.
