I am currently involved in two research projects. My PhD is investigating the association between thrombocysosis and lung cancer, supervised by Dr Sarah Bailey, Professor Willie Hamilton, and Dr Giordano Pula. My research assistant position is examining potential ethnic differences in blood tests results that could indicate risk of cancer.

Background: Thrombocytosis is associated with poor lung cancer prognosis and has recently been identified as having a high positive predictive value in lung cancer detection. Lung cancer has multiple histological and genetic subtypes and it is not known whether platelet levels differ across these subtypes, or whether thrombocytosis is predictive o...

Hi, I am due to start cell culture in a couple of weeks and need to purchase some FBS. The prices seem to have skyrocketted and my modest budget can't cope!
My supervisor was previously buying FBS from Biotechne which was half the price of Gibco / Merck, but they have now discontinued all of their FBS that was able to be exported out of the USA.
Anyone know of any cheap(ish) FBS that is able to be exported / delivered to the UK?
I have isolated adipocytes from adipose tissue and intend on collecting conditioned medium from them. However, I need to standardise the concentration of the proteins in the conditioned medium by counting the adipocytes which is difficult because they float. Is there a protocol for using a haemocytometer to count adipocytes?
I need to determine that the cells I have isolated are adipocytes. Has anyone done this or know how to do it by immunocytochemistry?
Analysing large sets of primary care data to determine which of the histological subtypes of lung cancer have a stronger association with pre-diagnostic thrombocytosis. This will be followed by an in vitro investigation into the mechanism of how this occurs.
