Mel Austen is a marine ecologist leading interdisciplinary research that integrates marine biodiversity, ecosystem functioning, ecosystem modelling, marine ecosystem services, and environmental economics to support policy, planning and management for sustainable marine ecosystems. She develops and leads novel collaborative marine research in EU and UK funded projects. She is coordinator of the FP7 EU VECTORS project, Environment and Energy theme leader for UKERC.
