The development of the mathematical theory of teaching by studying various models of didactic systems on a personal computer is discussed. Various approaches to modeling the educational process are analyzed, which take into account the division of knowledge into strong and fragile, logical and associative connections between elements of educational material, the dependence of student's motivation on the difference between his knowledge and the teacher's requirements, a decrease in the bandwidth of the "teacher-student" communication channel with increasing speed of information transfer and other factors. Various methods of managing the student's activity are studied, for some special cases the optimization problem of learning is solved, graphs are built that describe the dynamics of changes in the knowledge level of the student.
