Forest therapy bases (or ‘stations’) are areas in which psycho-physiological benefits deriving from inhaling the Biogenic Volatile Organic Compounds (BVOCs), called terpenes or phytoncides (wood essential oils), which are produced by the trees have been scientifically proven and in which such therapy is managed. In Italy, the ‘Natisone Valleys’ For...
In the last 15 years, environmental medicine research has highlighted the negative effects of urban pollution on human health. Despite this, no review of the medical literature has emerged to examine the different forms of pollution and to assist in the development of tourism innovation in rural areas. The main objective of this paper is to underst...
The important role of food and nutrition in public health is being increasingly recognized as crucial for its potential impact on health-related quality of life and the economy, both at the societal and individual levels. The prevalence of non-communicable diseases calls for a reformulation of our view of food. The Hazard Analysis and Critical Cont...
The purpose of this study is to develop a method to identify the radical changes in the Mediterranean adequacy index (MAI) trend for monitoring and modifying food and prevention policies. The development of a statistical solver demonstrates that the evolution of the MAI over time (1961-2013) in the EU countries, the USA and Japan is at least bi-par...
Background: The relationship between Length Of Stay (LOS) and Metres Above Sea Level (MASL) of Climate Therapy Stays (CTSs) and their therapeutic effectiveness and efficiency has been under-researched in the last four decades. As a consequence, the potentials of short-term and low-altitude CTSs remain unknown. Objectives: The purpose of this study...
Background: Several studies have suggested the possibility of obtaining specific respiratory benefits by experiencing forests and other natural resources. Despite this, forests have never been considered according to such potential. This study aims to compare municipalities by considering the absence/presence of tree species generating ‘above thres...
We investigated whether a 1-week stay in the mountains may have a positive impact on Exercise-Induced Bronchoconstriction (EIB) and cardiorespiratory endurance in asthmatic children from an urban area. Spirometry was performed before and 10 min after a 20 m shuttle run test (20mSRT) on the first and seventh day of a summer asthma camp in the Italia...
We have known the term "third landscape" from the book of Lingiardi which inspired this conference. Clément, landscape architect and agronomist engineer, is placed in the middle between naturalism and knowledge of technological civilization. He sees the third landscape differently from urban planners who essentially think of interstitial spaces as...
The Total Antioxidant Index (TAA-I) can be viewed as a wine added value, for which consumers are willing to pay, and as a determinant in developing successful differentiated marketing strategies. This interdisciplinary study aims to harness potentials existing in an evidence-based wine TAA-I and territorial data on wine production. According to the...

The United Nations' Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 10, "Reducing inequalities", establishes that policies for territorial revitalisation should necessarily pay attention to the needs of the most marginalised areas. This study aims to operationalise the key-elements of the Natisonian-Nediško idiom to improving the authenticity and innovation of...
This study focuses on the creation of community wellbeing through the application of the Albergo Diffuso business model. Albergo Diffuso (AD) is translatable as ‘scattered hotel’ and is ‘a particular type of hotel conceived to provide to the guests the experience of living in a rural village or a historical centre of a small town’ (UNDP-EBN, 2008:...
The approach to the territory’s biocultural fingerprint can be very important when it comes to studying uniformities and differences among different regions. By examining the code of the attributes and the features, it is therefore possible to determine the landscapecultural uniformities which can create a common project for tourism and residential...
The concept of intermediate market trade contacts (ITC) have been developed as transactional capital resource measured by business-to-business purchases or sales. In the framework of the resource-based view, only valuable, rare, inimitable and non-substitutable firm's resources might be considered as a source of sustained competitive advantage. Sup...
Without efficient buyer-seller interactions no firm can exist. Despite this simple assumption, Business-to-Business (B2B) interactions represent an under-investigated field of research. This thesis discusses the original concept of the ‘Intermediate market Trade Contact’ (ITC) as a transactional capital resource, measured by B2B interactions on the...
Abstract
Through the lens of Resource-Based Theory, this study examines extra-core Food Industry capabilities to diversify its secondary production (heterogeneity) and to overcome entry barriers in destination markets (mobility). Eurostat well-structured database of EU-27 Supply tables is used. The results demonstrate: a) entering Food core busines...
Nowadays it seems to be imperative for smart farms to go downstream in the Supply Chain (SC) to supplement the revenues of their underlying product sales. Using the well-structured database of Eurostat Supply tables for EU-27, this study intends to verify what products and services the Agricultural sector is offering beyond its core business activi...
One of the most important drivers of new resource and capability development for firms lies in constraints and challenges posed by natural (biophysical) environment (Hart, 1995, p. 989). Even at present gross world product (GWP), which combines the gross domestic product (GDP) of all world countries, is currently approximately at US $83.12 trillion...
Trade contacts in the intermediate market, or intermediate trade contacts (ITC), are transactional capital resources. They are measured by business-to-business purchases or sales. The objective of this work is to evaluate the impact of ITC sales on the sustained competitive advantage
of hotels and restaurants, 'HotRests', in EU countries. In a reso...

Abstract. In a previous work, the Authors developed the concept of intermediate market (or inter-firms) trade contacts (ITC) as a resource flow of transactional capital to assess business-to-business purchases or sales contacts in Hotels and Restaurants industry. In the resource-based view of the firm (R-bv), only valuable, rare, inimitable and non...
The Albergo diffuso is a new form of hotel in which typical rooms and houses are scattered throughout different buildings within the same village, are overseen by one manager to achieve the highest hotel quality and social involvement standard. When this new business opportunity is presented without detailed informations, often confusion occurs. Ho...
Coordinating SME’s systems becomes a science (thanks to the Albergo diffuso). The albergo diffusos (scattered hotels) in Italy are trying to represent the cultural identity of typical villages toward the tourism market in an effective and sustainable way since 1982, the year in which the first Ad’s plan was developed in the Friuli Venezia Giulia Re...
The changes that have been taking place in the last five years require that everyone work together successfully with others. Now, the Albergo diffuso, other hoteliers and also the public have been accustomed to cooperate without deeply analyzing their whole supplying, marketing, management and partnership necessities. It is natural that strategic c...

As mentioned in the 2017 article you co-authored and titled Evaluating the relaxation effects of emerging forest-therapy tourism: A multidisciplinary approach, "ageing and depopulation of local communities are reducing possibilities to supply the needed lodging services". In Italy, the rural communities potentially interested in offering forest-based health and wellness activities suffer from the same issue, very often. I was asking myself how are Japanese forest therapy stations offering the needed lodging services to their guests. Furthermore, I was wondering whether a new hospitality model called "Albergo Diffuso" engineered in Italy, and I'm studying, could represent a viable way to fix that issue. Looking forward to hearing your valuable answer.
