Introduction
Maurizio Barberio is an architect, Ph.D., and postdoctoral researcher at Politecnico di Bari, where he also teaches Digital Design and Fabrication at the C.E.S.A.R. Course of the Scuola di Specializzazione of the Politecnico di Bari. Among these, the AEC sector has also begun to accept the challenges dictated by the 4.0 paradigm, continuing that path of hybridisation with other disciplinary fields and industrial sectors (aerospace, naval, automotive) that characterised the first digital era. The 4.0 challenge leads industry operators to introduce a series of new paradigms that affect the entire supply chain, from first-level training courses to the creation of innovative companies, passing through the design and construction of digital and performative architectures. The affirmation of computational design, the increasingly transversal and multidisciplinary flow of knowledge, the democratization of machines open up new possibilities in a historical moment where the combination of technological innovation and design can play an important role in terms of environmental sustainability and reduced consumption of resources. The development of CAD / CAM and robotics digital manufacturing technologies has helped to reduce the gap produced by the increase in computational power in the generation of the form compared to the materialization of the same. Through this process, architecture regains its own tectonic identity and the architect of a material sensitivity previously dissolved in virtual space. The democratization of digital manufacturing tools and the growing ubiquity of computational design requires a new material dimension and a new figure capable of controlling the entire process. In the post-digital era, where the essence of design lies in the control and information of the process that holistically involves all the aspects mentioned above, rather than in formal research, it is necessary to understand technologies and analyze the advantages that it can bring in terms of environmental sustainability and product innovation. This book intends to systematize from a theoretical and practical point of view, the best contributions and the best experiences in the professional and entrepreneurial, academic and research fields in relation to architecture and design based on this new design paradigm. The main purpose of the proposed systematization is to create a widespread awareness necessary to initiate technology transfer processes involving the public sector, universities and research centers, and the private sector consisting of innovative companies.
Project
Along with the traditional roles of teaching and research, universities are more and more focusing on the diffusion of the knowledge generated through technology transfer processes and the creation of an entrepreneurial environment, consistently with the entrepreneurial university paradigm. In this new scenario, the knowledge transfer issue is increasingly relevant. The research project aims at studying typical dynamics of the knowledge transfer, as the diffusion of the entrepreneurial university principles, the scouting and promotion of the research outputs, the identification of complementarities among research groups, and the creation of local and international relationships. The study of these activities will be useful to increase their efficiency and effectiveness in academic contexts. Accanto alle tradizionali funzioni di didattica e ricerca scientifica affidate alle Università, negli ultimi anni sta assumendo sempre più rilevanza la diffusione della conoscenza attraverso il trasferimento tecnologico e la creazione di un ambiente orientato all’imprenditorialità, secondo il paradigma dell’entrepreneurial university. In questo nuovo scenario, il tema del Knowledge Transfer assume maggiore rilevanza. L’obiettivo del progetto di ricerca è quello di studiare dinamiche tipiche del knowledge transfer, quali, ad esempio, la diffusione dei principi dell’entrepreneurial university, lo scouting e valorizzazione dei risultati della ricerca, l’individuazione di complementarietà tra gruppi di ricerca e la creazione di relazioni locali e internazionali. Lo studio di queste attività sarà poi utile a incrementarne l’efficacia e l’efficienza nell’ambito di contesti universitari.
