Background
Actigraphy is increasingly incorporated into clinical practice to monitor intervention effectiveness and patient health in congestive heart failure (CHF). We explored the prognostic impact of actigraphy-quantified physical activity (AQPA) on CHF outcomes.
Methods
PubMed and Medline databases were systematically searched for cross-sectio...

Chronic venous disease (CVD) represents a significant healthcare burden. Thrombophilia is proposed as a risk factor, particularly for post‐thrombotic CVD. A systematic review was performed to determine the relationship between thrombophilia and non‐thrombotic CVD. MEDLINE® and Embase® databases were searched from 1946 up to March 2018. Case‐control...

Methods
A systematic review was performed according to the PRISMA (Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-analys...
Advancements in surgical technique and understanding of the pathophysiology of mitral valve (MV) dysfunction have led to improved outcomes. Seen as a development beyond measures of morbidity and mortality, health-related quality-of-life (HRQOL) outcome measures are becoming increasingly popular. These measures are important because complications fo...
Objective
Patients with chronic venous disease (CVD) can present with different underlying hemodynamic abnormalities affecting the deep, superficial, and perforator veins. This review explores the relationship between reflux patterns, extent of venous reflux, and clinical manifestations of CVD.

The Medline and EMBASE databases were searche...
Introduction
Diabetic foot disease (DFD) is serious complication of diabetes with a multifactorial aetiology and carries a significant risk. The prevalence of DFD continues to grow globally. Artificial intelligence has been proposed in aiding early detection and risk stratification for ulceration and other major complications including sepsis, mino...
Objective
There is increasing recognition that health systems need to improve the value of patient care by measuring outcomes. Pelvic Venous disorders (PeVD) can have a significant impact on the quality of life of women affected and despite growing recognition, remain underdiagnosed. Developing a core outcome set (COS) for benchmarking care deliver...
Objective
Pelvic venous disease (PeVD) remains a common yet under-diagnosed condition, and there remains no standardised diagnostic work-up. A self-assessment questionnaire was developed to aid the identification of women with PeVD. The study aimed to assess the performance of the questionnaire score in identifying patients with PeVD.

Operating on the thoracic aorta is a challenging task, with historically high morbidity and mortality. While outcomes are improving in recent times, there is increased focus on patient-reported outcome measures, principle of which is health-related quality of life (HRQoL), a development beyond isolated markers of operative morbidity or mortality. T...
Health-related quality of life (HRQoL) is increasingly used as an outcome measure in surgery. This concept is of particular importance to intervention on the mitral valve (MV), in view of guidelines recommending early intervention on patients even if they are asymptomatic. Transcatheter MV procedures are continuously evolving and requires robust as...
The spleen is a complex organ involved in multiple physiological processes in the human body. Elective splenectomy is an uncommon operation, and the precise characterization of the lesion should be achieved to determine the risks and benefits of this operation accurately. Given the significant role of the spleen in homeostasis and the potential ris...
Lymphoedema is estimated to affect up to 15% of the global population. Patients with this “forgotten vascular disease” often fail to receive the complex comprehensive multidisciplinary care they need, leading to reduced health-related quality of life (HRQoL). This chapter focuses on the literature regarding the impact of lower limb lymphoedema on p...
Objective
Pelvic venous reflux (PVR) can present with symptoms such as chronic pelvic pain (CPP), dysmenorrhoea, and dyspareunia, resulting in reduced quality of life amongst those affected. Percutaneous coil embolisation (CE) is a common intervention for PVR, however the efficacy and safety of its use in isolation has yet to be reviewed.

Introduction
Post-thrombotic syndrome (PTS) is a common lifelong condition affecting up to 50% of those suffering from deep vein thrombosis (DVT). PTS compromises function and quality of life with subsequent venous ulceration in up to 29% of those affected.
Areas covered
A literature review of surgical and non-surgical approaches in the prevention...
Objective: The aim was to assess the methodological quality of Clinical Practice Guidelines (CPGs) which inform the diagnosis and management of chronic venous disease (CVD) using the Appraisal of Guidelines for Research & Evaluation II (AGREE II) Tool.
Methods: A systematic review was performed through Medline and Embase databases to identify CPGs...
Abstract
OBJECTIVE
Absorbable IVC filters could be more effective and safer than standard IVC filters in theory, as they will self-resorb over time, thus rendering the need for filter retrieval and the risks associated with it unnecessary. This scoping review aims to evaluate the design of current absorbable IVCFs, review the development phase of t...
Background
Compression following sclerotherapy is commonly used, although the evidence base for this is unclear. This study aims to summarise and assess the evidence for compression therapy post-sclerotherapy to inform clinical practice.
Methods
A systematic review was performed according to PRISMA guidelines via Medline and EMBASE databases (1946...
Objective
Diabetic foot syndrome (DFS) contributes to significant morbidity in diabetic patients. Diagnostic and therapeutic approaches to DFS may be summarised in clinical practice guidelines (CPGs) to aid clinical practice but may only benefit patients if the CPG is of high quality. This study determines the methodological quality of DFS CPGs usi...
Objective
This review aims to assess the evidence supporting the impact of patient foot care education on self efficacy, self care behaviour, and self care knowledge in individuals with diabetes.
Methods
This systematic review was registered prospectively on the PROSPERO database (CRD42019106171). Ovid EMBASE and MEDLINE databases were searched fr...
Objectives
To determine the methodological quality of current lymphoedema clinical practice guidelines (CPGs) to assist healthcare professionals in selecting accessible, high-quality guidance and to identify areas for improvement in future CPGs.
Methods
Medline, EMBASE, online CPG databases and reference lists of included guidelines were searched...

The death rate from thoracic aortic disease is on the rise and represents a growing global health concern as patients are often asymptomatic before acute events, which have devastating effects on health-related quality of life. Biomechanical factors have been found to play a major role in the development of both acquir...
Venous thromboembolism (VTE), chronic venous disease (CVD), and venous leg ulceration (VLU) are clinical manifestations of a poorly functioning venous system. Though common, much is unknown of the pathophysiology and progression of these conditions. Metabolic phenotyping has been employed to explore mechanistic pathways involved in venous disease....
