Project
MONFIN is a multidisciplinary and innovative research project that, stemming from different disciplines such as economics, sociology and economic history, will help to explain how money and means of payment are being transformed, what are the actors and processes involved in such transformation and what are their social consequences in terms of financial inclusion of families and businesses. Money is a central institution in our society. It constitutes one of the most powerful technologies of our time and its evolution offers unexplored possibilities of social and political change. The transformations of money are intrinsically related to complex dynamics. On the one hand, the development of multiple instruments subjected to innovation in ICT; on the other, issues of political relevance linked to the relationship between the territory, the state and monetary sovereignty, as well as the social processes related to the confidence in the economic system and the conflicting interests between the agents involved in the issuance of the means of payment. The project foresees breaking the analytical gap that prevents from evaluating recent dynamics in the innovation of payment methods, the process of institutional change, the presence of new actors and their consequences on society. This project involves two main researchers (J. Carles Maixé-Altés and Matilde Massó Lago) and researchers from the Department of Economics and Department of Sociology and Political Science and Administration at the University of La Coruña, as well as other collaborators from the University of Leeds and the Newcastle Business School (United Kingdom), and CIDE (Mexico). Project
This project will analyse the social structure of the government debt market in Spain. This analysis will be carried out from the theoretical basis of Economic Sociology and will focus on the influence that social processes such as status positions, power relations and social conventions have on economic actions.
