The goal is to evaluate different maritime history perspectives of the island of Hvar during the long 19th century, mostly dominated with strong commerce and transport initiative that brought the sailors to different parts of the world. Within the Austrian maritime orientation the image of trade sailing is outlined, and then the focus is directed to Island of Hvar maritime acchievements. Case study includes fisheries, transport and trade sailing, port and sanitation improvements and social development outcomes.
