Methods and systems for displaying search engine results where the file links are displayed with corresponding images of things that fall within a given category are disclosed. Object detection software can be used with a search engine to provide search results to a user that contain specific images found within the result pages (i.e. the pages of...

We give a complete description of the fourth tautological group of the moduli space of pointed stable curves, Mg,n, and prove that for g ≥ 8 it coincides with the cohomology group with rational coefficients. We further give a conjectural upper bound depending on the genus for the degree of new tautological relations.

With the advent and proliferation of low cost and high performance digital video recorder devices, an increasing number of personal home video clips are recorded and stored by the consumers. Compared to image data, video data is lager in size and richer in multimedia content. Efficient access to video content is expected to be more challenging than...

In this paper, we consider the problem of calculating fast and accurate approximations to the personalized PageRank score of a webpage. We focus on techniques to improve speed by limiting the amount of web graph data we need to access. Our algorithms provide both the approximation to the personalized PageRank score as well as guidance in using only...

Most programs are repetitive, where similar behavior can be seen at different execution times. Algorithms have been proposed that automatically group similar portions of a program's execution into phases, where samples of execution in the same phase have homogeneous behavior and similar resource requirements. In this paper, we examine applying thes...

Recent studies have shown that most SPEC CPU2K benchmarks exhibit strong phase behavior, and the Cycles per Instruction (CPI) performance metric can be accurately predicted based on program's control-flow behavior, by simply observing the sequencing of the program counters, or extended instruction pointers (EIPs). One motivation of this paper is to...

Consider a number of moving points, where each point is attached to a joint of the human body and projected onto an image plane.
Article
Detecting and exploiting program's cyclic phase behavior can reduce pro-gram simulation time by eliminating simulation of repeated phases. To use this technique over a wide range of complex applications, this paper presents a novel non-intrusive, and low overhead tool, iPART, for analyzing and rec-ognizing phase behavior of programs running on nati...
Conference Paper
Consider a number of moving points, where each point is attached to a joint of the human body and projected onto an image plane. Johannson showed that humans can effortlessly detect and recog- nize the presence of other humans from such displays. This is true even when some of the body points are missing (e.g. because of occlusion) and unrelated cl...

Locally Linear Embedding (LLE) is an elegant nonlinear dimensionality-reduction technique recently introduced by Roweis and Saul [2]. It fails when the data is divided into separate groups.

In this paper we compute the generating function for the Euler characteristic of the Deligne-Mumford compactification of the moduli space of smooth n-pointed genus 2 curves. The proof relies on quite elementary methods, such as the enumeration of the graphs involved in a suitable stratification of .

In this paper we compute the generating function for the Euler characteristic of the Deligne-Mumford compactification of the moduli space of smooth n-pointed genus 2 curves. The proof relies on quite elementary meth- ods, such as the enumeration of the graphs involved in a suitable stratification of M2,n.

We give a complete description of the tautological subgroup of the fourth cohomology group of the moduli space of pointed stable curves, and prove that for g \geq 8 it coincides with the cohomology group itself. We further give a conjectural upper bound depending on the genus for the degree of new tautological relations.

These are the informal notes of two seminars held at the Universita` di Roma "La Sapienza", and at the Scuola Normale Superiore in Pisa in Spring and Autumn 1997. We discuss in detail the content of the parts of Givental's paper dealing with mirror symmetry for projective complete intersections.

This paper focuses on the problem of providing personalized search results to a web user without violating the user's privacy. Concurrently, our model exploits the under-utilized computational potential of the client machine. We introduce a concept for a Local Web, a portion of the web manageable on the client machine and built from a user's person...
