How we measure 'reads'
A 'read' is counted each time someone views a publication summary (such as the title, abstract, and list of authors), clicks on a figure, or views or downloads the full-text. Learn more

Introduction
I'm currently Director of Graduate Studies for my department. I'm an algebraic topologist. I'm especially interested in groups of symmetries. This has entailed learning some surgery theory, algebraic K-theory and Riemannian geometry. I'm currently writing a textbook on low-dimensional geometry, with emphasis on -- you guessed it -- discrete groups of isometries. The current version is available at http://albany.edu/~mark/geom.pdf .

. In the Forum section of the November, 1993 Notices of the American Mathematical Society , John Franks discussed the electronic journal of the future. Since then, the New York Journal of Mathematics, the first electronic general mathematics journal, has begun publication. In this article, we explore the issues of electronic journal publishing in t...

true is given in [CS 4 ].) The first counterexamples to de Rham's Conjecture were given by the first two authors, for G = Z 4q for any q ? 1, between representations of dimension 9. The first three authors, together with the last, then gave counterexamples over Z 4q in all dimensions 6 for all q ? 2 [CSSW]. (We show here that q ? 2 is necessary for...

Locally linear (= locally smoothable) actions of finite groups on finite dimensional manifolds are considered in which two incident components of fixed point sets of subgroups either coincide or one has codimension at least three in the other. For these actions, an equivariant $\alpha$-approximation theorem is proved using engulfing techniques. As...

We classify up to topological equivalence those equivariant h-cobordisms which admit a handle structure, giving a topologically invariant Whitehead group and an s-cobordism theorem, and giving the comparison to the Diff and PL classification via an equivariant version of the controlled Whitehead groups of Chapman and Quinn. We also construct stably...

Serre fibrations between C.W. complexes are fibrations in the category of compactly generated weak Hausdorff spaces, but not, by example, in the category of all spaces. Under suitable hypotheses the notions of Dold fibration in the two categories coincide. Examples are given of maps with ANR base, total space and fibres which are not Dold fibration...
