The progress made in the penetration of renewable energy (RE) sources in most parts of the world is not fast enough for achieving the international climate mitigation targets. Furthermore, there is a lack of energy planning strategies, methods and tools for assessing the implementation of RE technologies which considers the social support. In this...

The concept of landscape (landskap in Swedish) has in germanic languages historically a double meaning as either a smaller territory defined through common culture and history, or merely as the visual surface of things [14]. Sweden is divided into 25 ‘landskap’ (in the sense of territory), based on common culture and history as well as a shared geo...

Project
In response to climate change, the limited availability of fossil fuels and the continuous increase in global energy demand, renewable energies (REE) have been rapidly developed. The challenge for the European Union (EU) for 2020 is that the percentage of renewable energy should cover 20% of total energy consumption and by 2030, at least 27%. The transformation of the energy system covers the environmental, technological, social, cultural and economic aspects. Although the objectives of promoting the energy transition are ambitious, it goes through different paths in France and Spain. The objective of this session is to understand the transversal aspects for a successful energy transition in France and Spain and, at the same time, to promote a theoretical reflection on the nature and dynamics of the transition towards renewable energies, analyzing the territorial and landscape problems in different regions of France and Spain.
Project
To develop a new theoretical understanding of the nature and dynamics of the renewable energy development, by analyzing existing social-economic, spatial and landscape patterns and regional differences of the development in four European countries (Spain, Italy, Czech Republic and Hungary), identifying enablers (success factors) and barriers which hinder a more effective utilization of the realizable potential of specific renewable energy resources, and studying how these barriers and enablers evolve over time. At the same time in order to achieve a space-based study we will study interactions among all different kind of renewables existing in different study areas. To analyze institutional contexts and acceptability of energy transition in order to provide indications for efficient energy policies. To estimate the economic impact of RE on production and employment. To consolidate an international and multidisciplinary research group formed through previous collaborations.
