Introduction
I am currently working on the development of electrospinning process for tissue engineering applications. I am evaluating several synthetic and natural polymers for the use in biomedical devices and also I am developing the encapsulation of active ingredients with electrospun fibers to bring more functionalities.

Critical-size long bone defects represent one of the major causes of fracture non-union and remain a significant challenge in orthopaedic surgery. Two-stage procedures such as a Masquelet technique demonstrate high level of success however their main disadvantage is the need for a second surgery, which is required to remove the non-resorbable cemen...
Conduits currently used to reconstruct the right ventricular outflow tract (RVOT) have no growth potential and require reoperations, resulting in an increased level of morbidity and mortality. This work investigates the effect of electrospinning parameters on the mechanical properties and biocompatibility of bioresorbable tubular scaffolds, as part...
Sterilization methods such as ɣ-irradiation, steam sterilization and ethylene oxide gas treatment can have negative effects on molecular structure and properties of polysaccharide-based biomaterials. In this perspective, the use of supercritical carbon dioxide (scCO2) has been proposed as an alternative method for biomaterial sterilization. In this...
Nanotechnology describes the characterization, fabrication and manipulation of structures, devices or materials that have one or more dimensions that are smaller than 100 nanometers. This area has established itself as a key enabling technology for a wide range of applications, thus becoming a top priority for science and technology policy developm...
