The current work investigates the feasibility of a novel Carbon Capture and Utilization (CCU) approach—also known as Underground Sun Conversion (USC) or geo-methanation. The overall objective of the current work is a comprehensive assessment on the technical, economic and legal aspects as well as greenhouse gas impacts to be concerned for establish...
The current movement within the energy market caused by the need for climate measures along with emerging new technologies leads to an evolution to a more intelligent, decentralized power network. Energy communities are part of this progress by jointly producing, consuming, storing, and sharing energy to increase the self-consumption of locally gen...
The subject examined in this article is based on a project in which heat recovery is implemented in a cement plant and the heat is to be transported at the highest possible temperature level via a 1.5 km long heat transport pipe outside industrial premisis. Due to temperatures of approx. 200 °C new legal topics are addressed.
The opportunity to feed waste heat into a district heating network (DHN) may be essential for its utilization. In the EU and most Member States, there was no specific legislation regulating entry in DHN. The Renewable Energies Directive 2018/2001/EU (RED2) intended to enable third-party renewable or waste heat generators to access DHN. This paper e...
As the civilian population is no longer just a consumer, but also a producer of renewable energy (so-called prosumer), the electricity consumption data between the members need a tamper-proof and automatic billing system. The blockchain technology can be used for trading electricity in an energy community and aims at making the system smarter. It c...
The European Union's Clean Energy Package introduces two kinds of energy communities, namely the Renewable Energy Community (REC) in the Renewable Energy Directive of 2018 and the Citizen Energy Community (CEC) in the Electricity Directive of 2019. They aim for local improvements of energy efficiency, increasing integration of renewable energy sour...
The European power system is undergoing constant evolution since the advent of the smart grids vision, where smart technology is about to become mainstream in the architecture of electricity grids. New functionalities, real-time sensing, and autonomous interventions of the technology promise enhanced operational efficiency and reliability, and open...
Due to increasing cyber-criminal actions security incidents pose a significant threat for society and economy. Such incidents may also affect personal data which could especially concern the exercise of economic activities, produce financial losses and harm the confidence of the users. To ensure the communication of the most serious security incide...
