Introduction
Thanks to the multidisciplinary nature of my training, I approach "marine conservation" by focusing on society and its involvement in all the processes of management and conservation. I have had the opportunity to carry out several research stays abroad. This, added to the process of developing a PhD, has allowed me to develop a lot of transversal skills. As a result, I have published in high-impact international journals and collaborated with researchers from different universities.

Costa Rica is one of the most biodiverse countries in the world, and stands out for its commitment to conservation. Along its two coasts, it presents a great heterogeneity of ecosystems and social realities. Social factors, more than physical-natural factors, determine the success or failure of an MPA, so they must be urgently incorporated into all...

A significant number of declared marine protected areas (MPAs) lack management plans, or they are not being applied appropriately, leading to poor management and, in the worst case scenario, so-called "paper parks". Evaluating the management of an MPA helps detect strengths and weaknesses, make decisions and correct mistakes in the future. Unfortun...

Determine if there are differences in the declaration of MPAs across different re...
