Field surveys were carried out by the International Snow Leopard project team to estimate snow leopard abundance and density in the Tumor Peak Natural Reserve in Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region (Xinjiang), China. A total of 48 linear transects with a total length of 48.92 km were surveyed at 5 potential distribution sites during October to Novemb...
The Kiang (Equus kiang Moorcroft, 1841) is listed as a Least Concern species by the IUCN. From 2011-2012, field surveys were conducted in the Arjin Mountain Nature Reserve in Xinjiang, China to collect up to date information about the current population and conservation status of the Kiang (Equus kiang Moorcroft, 1841). During the survey, direct (o...
Simple Summary: The Przewalski's horse (Equus ferus przewalskii), the only extant species of wild horse, was extinct in the wild in 1960s. The wild horse has been successfully saved from extinction by captive breeding projects outside the historic range. Although multiple studies were conducted, the main problems such as loss of founder genes, inbr...
Recent technological innovations have led to an upsurge in the availability of unmanned aerial vehicles (also known as drones and hereafter referred to as UAVs)—aircraft remotely operated from the ground—which are increasingly popular tools for ecological research, and the question of this study concerns the extent to which wildlife responses might...
The Endangered snow leopard Panthera uncia is a flagship species of mountainous central Asia, and a conservation concern. China has the largest extent of potential snow leopard habitat and is thus crucial for snow leopard conservation. There are many challenges to snow leopard conservation in China, however, and there is still little information on...
Leaf water content (LWC) is a vital indicator of crop growth and development. While visible and near-infrared (VIS–NIR) spectroscopy makes it possible to estimate crop leaf moisture, spectral preprocessing and multiband spectral indices have important significance in the quantitative analysis of LWC. In this work, the fractional order derivative (F...
Simple Summary: In response to the harsh natural environment in the arid lands of Xinjiang, China, Kentish plover Charadrius alexandrinus populations in different regions show flexibility in their breeding strategies to cope with the changeable environment. Of our three study areas, one (Taitema Lake) is distinctly characterized by barren terrains...
Due to the influence of bio-geographical and environmental factors, as well as anthropogenic landscape features, organisms show different reproductive strategies among different populations. There is a lack of detailed information on the reproductive biology of Kentish plover Charadrius alexandrinus in arid lands in Central Asia. In this study, we...

Przewalski’s horse (Equus ferus przewalskii), also known as Przewalski’s wild horse, the Asian wild horse, Mongolian wild horse, Takhi or Junggar Horses, is classified by the IUCN as Extinct in the Wild (EW) as no Przewalski’s horse has been seen in the wild since 1969, despite efforts to find them in Mongolia or China. The wild horse has been succ...
Taxonomic position as well as evolutionary history of species is one of topics which are keen to both evolutionary biologists and conservation biologists. Once described as the least known gazelle in central Asia, Przewalski’s gazelle Procapra przewalskii only occurs around the Qinghai Lake (Kuknor) and was once classified as Critically Endangered...
In this paper, we update the status of Black-necked cranes ( Grus nigricollis ) in Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region, China where it has hardly been recorded. We report on research in Southern Xinjiang, mainly in Altun (Arjin in Chinese) and Kunlun Mountain ranges and their adjacent areas, including part of Pamir Plateau and the southern edge of Lop...
An updated checklist of bird species that occur in the Arjin Mountain Nature Reserve and its adjacent areas, including parts of Kunlun Mountain, Qimantagh and Kumkul Basin, is provided as part of the basic data for a second nation-wide field survey of wildlife resources of China (2010-2020). The information provided is based on field observations m...

We studied the food habits, food types and food components of two- humped wild camel(Camelus bactrianus) by sampling belt transects and point counts, and faecal analysis method from December 2014 to December 2015 in three fractional distribution areas and at 10 observation points(N 38°00′-40°50′,E 83°51′-85°48′) in Xinjiang Taklimakan Desert. In four...
Changes in the palaeoenvironment and paleoclimate expedite the process of evolutionary divergence in animals. The evolutionary events of some small mammals distributed in Xinjiang Arid Region remain ambiguous. Thus, it is necessary to predict their evolutionary histories based on divergence estimates. Some museum specimens were involved in this ana...
Przewalski’s gazelle Procapra przewalskii is an endangered species endemic to China. A question remains about subspecific variation in this species. Skulls of Przewalski’s gazelle collected from its current remnant ranges around the Qinghai Lake in combination with those collected prior to the 20th century were measured and analyzed using Hierarchi...

Anthropogenic landscapes influence evolutionary processes such as population genetic differentiation, however, not every type of landscape features exert the same effect on a species, hence it is necessary to estimate their relative effect for species management and conservation. Przewalski's gazelle (Procapra przewalskii), which inhabits a human-a...

The two main positive aspects of this pandemic are reducing environmental pollution and increasing public awareness of disease prevention i think, do you agree?
We, perhaps, also discovered a new subspecies of Przewalski’s gazelle, P. p. wayu. The race was proved to be fully distinct from all other populations of the species and taxonomically recognizable from other groups by differences in means of coefficient of difference of skull morphology, as Mayr (1953) suggested that any two groups should be treated as different subspecies if the coefficient of difference is larger than 1.28. Though we suggest that, the distinct race be classified as a new subspecies of Przewalski’s gazelle: Procapra przewalskii wayu; the Wayu population is not qualified as a subspecies in term of the definition of Ereshefsky (1992) due to the fact that only one small population was discovered at a single site.
is anyone here interested in the decade changes of Snow Leopards of the Central Asia?
The Przewalski’s horse (Equus ferus przewalskii), the only extant species of wild horse, was extinct in the wild in 1960s. The wild horse has been successfully saved from extinction by captive breeding projects outside the historic range. but the horse is still facing threats such as loss of founder genes, inbreeding depression, hybridization with domestic horses, high morbidity and mortality, and a lack of reliable prevention strategies and treatment limitations of these problems are still unresolved.
but the fatal threat,, we think , is the poor coordination of the different reintroduction projects,
what should we do for the long term management and conservation of the recovered populations of the species?
