Introduction
I’m an adjunct professor of Transportation Engineering at Faculty of Science and Technology (FCT) in Federal University of Goiás (UFG). I’m interested in exploring Computer Science within Transportation Engineering through Algorithms and Middleware platforms for Smart Cities, Data Stream, Big Data, and Intelligent Systems. I hold a PhD. degree (2017) in Informatics from the Department of Informatics of the Pontifical Catholic University of Rio de Janeiro (PUC-Rio). In 2013, I received a M.Sc. degree in Computer Science from the Instituto de Informática (INF) at Federal University of Goiás (UFG). I also received my bachelor degree in Computer Science from the same institute and university (INF/UFG) at 2011. I have participated in numerous research projects, from public and private agencies

A factor that impacts airlines' resources is the verification of luggage's dimensions during the boarding process. To check conformity, companies usually rely on a human operator. To mitigate this issue, companies are investing in automatic self-bag drop systems. This process introduces new technological challenges, since, in this scenario, the ver...

Triage is a fundamental process in hospitals and emergency care units, as it allows for the classification and prioritization of patient care based on the severity of their clinical conditions. In Brazil, the triage of suspected COVID-19 cases is performed using a specific protocol, which involves manual steps, requiring the completion of four diff...

An important piece of information for planning public transportation is the number of passengers using the system. Several initiatives have started to explore the Wi-Fi packets generated by passengers’ smartphones as means to obtain this information. A sensing device located inside the bus can intercept and collect these packets. By applying filter...

Abstract Spatial concentrations (or spatial clusters) of moving objects, such as vehicles and humans, is a mobility pattern that is relevant to many applications. Fast detection of this pattern and its evolution, e.g., if the cluster is shrinking or growing, is useful in numerous scenarios, such as detecting the formation of traffic jams or detecti...

Most of information technologies courses are focused on exposing the traditional static data (e.g., SGBD) processing model and lack on presenting the data stream model. Such model can be applied to fields such as Internet of Things, busyness and finances, logistics and smart cities) of the industry. Complex Event Processing consists of a programmin...

Several smart city systems have focused on addressing a specific mobility problem scenario (e.g., air pollution, traffic jam) in a given city. The task of adding, extending, or porting the smart city scenario to other cities can be very challenging due to the rigid structure of such existing systems. To address this issue, in this paper we investig...

The majority of fatal car crashes are caused by reckless driving. With the sophistication of vehicle instrumentation, reckless maneuvers, such as abrupt turns, acceleration, and deceleration, can now be accurately detected by analyzing data related to the driver-vehicle interactions. Such analysis usually requires very specific in-vehicle hardware...

On-line spatial clustering of large position streams are useful for several applications, such as monitoring urban traffic and massive events. To rapidly and timely detect in real-time these spatial clusters, algorithms explored grid-based approaches, which segments the spatial domain into discrete cells. The primary benefit of this approach is tha...

Swarms of Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAV) can be useful to several applications, such as urban surveillance and monitoring of mass events. To build and maintain a swarm formation, the UAVs need to compute, communicate, and coordinate their actions. However, it is complex to design and integrate computing and communicating chips into the UAV control...

Clusters of mobile elements, such as vehicles and humans, are a common mobility pattern of interest for many applications. The on-line detection of them from large position streams of mobile entities is a challenging task because it requires algorithms that are capable of continuously and efficiently processing the high volume of position updates i...

The hardware of wireless sensor network devices has evolved grea-tly over the last decade. However, the programming models of applications on sensors have not followed this trend, especially in the area of communication between devices, resulting in applications with low level of abstraction. It is presented in this article spotSHOUT, a distributed...

Applications such as fleet and mobile task force management, or traffic control can largely benefit from the on-line detection of collective mobility patterns of vehicles, goods or persons. A common mobility pattern is a cluster, a concentration of mobile nodes in a certain region, e.g., a mass pro-test, a rock concert, or a traffic jam. Current ap...

The concentration (cluster) of mobile entities in a certain region, e.g., a mass street protest, a rock concert, or a traffic jam, is an information that can benefit several distributed applications. Nevertheless, cluster detection in on-line scenarios is a challenging task, primary because it requires efficient and complex algorithms to handle the...

Applications such as fleet management, mobile task force coordination, logis- tics or traffic control can largely benefit from the on-line detection of collective mobility patterns of vehicles, goods or persons. However, collective mobility pattern analysis is exponential by nature, requires the high-throughput processing of large volumes of mobile...

Current sharing-based applications combine new computing devices with smart spaces to provide content-level ubiquity, i.e., the possibility to exchange and move content freely in a ubiquitous environment. However, due to the environment complexity and lack of infrastructure platforms, most of the work in the area is repeatedly built from scratch us...

Applications such as transportation management and logistics, emergency response, environmental monitoring or mobile workforce management, employ mobile networks as means of enabling communication and coordination among a possibly very large set of mobile nodes. The majority of those systems thus may require real-time tracking of the nodes, interac...

Collaborative applications are being used in the integration of new computing devices into the classroom. However, their implementation expo-ses the programmer to system level issues, such as communication and concur-rency. Due to the complexity of these problems, most academic work in the area, deals entirely with their construction. Aiming to pro...
