This study investigated how temperature affects the expression of seed hydration memory and the acquisition of tolerance to water deficit in Cereus jamacaru subsp. jamacaru and Xiquexique gounellei subsp. gounellei. These species, native to semiarid ecosystems, face the risk of higher temperatures due to climate change, which could exceed their opt...

In recent decades, the concept of memory has gained significant attention in plant ecophysiology research. When memory is expressed during germination, it is referred to as ‘seed hydration memory’. Although numerous metrics relate to different aspects of germination, the literature lacks a method for quantifying seed hydration memory. This study ai...

In 24 years of studies on seed-hydration memory, the benefits promoted by cycles of hydration and dehydration in germination and the initial development of plants, such as increased tolerance to environmental stress, have been unraveled. However, little is still known about how the combination of different factors influences this memory. This study...

Seed hydration memory is the result of hydration and dehydration cycles (HD cycles) that occur naturally during seeds’ imbibition in semiarid ecosystems. It is expressed through the improvement of germination and initial development, especially under water deficit. This study investigated the seed hydration memory expression in Senna spectabilis va...

Discontinuous hydration in seeds occurs commonly in species from semi-arid regions. This process of hydration and dehydration in seeds can act as a primary stimulus and activate stress memory, improving seed germination by releasing dormancy or enhancing drought tolerance. Sometimes, stimuli occur at one stage of life, and the memory is evoked at a...
