The consumption of organic products in natura in Brazil has been experiencing strong growth. But the consumption of processed organics grows at a much lower rate. As the Brazilian agribusinesses face difficulties in the supply of raw materials, the a reality of the State of Rio de Janeiro is no different. The existence of organic processing companies in the State of the State is known as agglomerates of organic production in the Northwest Region of the State. However, the degree of competitiveness of productive chains is unknown and is in a cooperative relationship between them. The present study aims to study the competitiveness of organic agroindustry in Rio de Janeiro and indirectly foster regional productive arrangements between agro-industries and organic producers. In order to achieve this, it seeks to adapt to the model of drivers of competition advocated by Silva and Batalha (1999) to the chain in question. Through semi-structured interviews with the main economic and institutional actors participating in this agro-industrial system. Therefore, it is hoped to contribute to the regional development of the State of Rio de Janeiro and foster the generation of employment and income in the regions studied.
It is estimated that global food waste for human consumption throughout the supply chain is higher than 50%. These losses are greater for fruits, vegetables, and greens. This paper proposes to identify the waste of food - especially of fruits, vegetables and greens - along a chain, considering the agricultural producer and retailer. It intends to list the used practices as well as indicate possibilities of implementing a food waste reduction model that can improve the existing model in the light of theoretical indicators, direct observation and interviews with key agents of the chain. A model will be elaborated from the analysis of works whose objectives resemble the proposal that aims to identify the management forms of the residues of suppliers and retailers of the retail supermarket. From the data collected, the waste generated along the chain of the supermarket sector will be identified. Thus, this work has the main purpose of mapping and quantifying food waste in the supermarket retail sector in the southern region of Rio de Janeiro and, from there, listing actions to reduce food waste.
