Die Sumpf-Fetthenne kommt in basenarmen Quellfluren, flachen Gräben und an nassen Stellen in Viehweiden vor. Entscheidend für ihre Existenz sind eine lückige Bestandsstruktur, offene Bodenstellen sowie Nässe und ein niedriger pH-Wert. Um die Art an ihren letzten Wuchsorten zu erhalten, ist eine Nutzung, die den Boden offen hält, sehr wichtig.
