The South American Physical Activity and Sedentary Behavior Network (SAPASEN) was designed to provide transnational empirical evidence about physical activity and sedentary behavior in South America, which represents 12% of world's surface and 6% of the global population. This sub-continent presents singular culture and distribution of diseases as well as lifestyle behaviors, especially due to an accelerated urbanization process, recent aging of population and considerable levels of poverty. This initiative aims to form a representative body of researchers and policy makers from all South America countries to establish priorities, targets and actions in short, medium and long-term. Vision Health promotion, disease control and prevention through active lifestyles improving populations wellbeing Mission To bring researchers and policymakers across the South American continent together to conduct, support and stimulate research and to implement and promote evidence based strategies on physical activity and sedentary behavior. Goals Establish and strengthen collaborations between South American researchers and policy- makers on physical activity and sedentary behavior Support and facilitate research on physical activity and sedentary behavior within and between South American countries Establish and strengthen collaborations with other networks. Provide up to date evidence on physical activity and sedentary behavior for the South American continent and in general. Promote continuing education on research in physical activity and sedentary behavior.
