We review the distribution of White-cheeked Pintail (Anas bahamensis rubrirostris) in mainland Ecuador and show that the species has expanded its range significantly. Contrary to published records, A. b. rubrirostris has been present in mainland Ecuador at least since the early 20th century, although probably in low numbers. During the 20th century...
Sparkling Violetear Colibri coruscans has a wide geographic distribution and is generally abundant. However, knowledge about its breeding biology is scarce and often limited to anecdotal observations. Therefore, in this study we present new breeding data in Quito and surrounding valleys, based on descriptions and observations of 45 broods in 39 nes...

Several animals living in social groups, such as monkeys, cows and sheep, have been shown to use facial discrimination for social recognition. Whether pigs can discriminate between faces of conspecifics purely based on visual stimuli provided by 2D portrait photographs, has not yet been investigated. Therefore, in this study piglets with a large bi...

Dear community,
I am an ecology teacher at an applied university teaching competition topics including niche differentiation, resource partitioning and the competitive exclusion principle. Topics that my students find difficult to fully grasp. I realized I do not sufficiently know the differences to be able to explain them 100%. However, in the textbooks I have including Biology from Campbell and Elements of Ecology by Smith & Smith, I do not find satisfying answers. Therefore I am looking for someone, or a textbook/article, that can help me amplify my knowledge.
Thanks for your help and suggestions in advance!
