Introduction
Dr. Ma. Bernadeth Borleo Lim currently works as Assistant Professor at the University of the Philippines Los Banos. Engr. Lim does research in Civil Engineering, particularly in Transportation Engineering. Most of her research is focused on transportation planning during emergencies. In the past 2 years, she worked on projects related to transportation planning, use of waste materials in hot mix asphalt, as well as in concrete mix. Her most recent publication is on asphalt pavement entitled 'Pulverized Ceramic Tile Waste as Potential Mineral Filler in Hot Mix Asphalt'. She is pursuing more research activities and keen to lead the development of a research laboratory at the University of the Philippines.

Emergency evacuation is the immediate escape of people away from a place of an imminent threat to a place of safety. The ability of the households to evacuate is a crucial component in reducing disaster risks. Logistical issues such as a lack of resources during and after the evacuation, as well as road congestion, might arise, especially in short...
Understanding evacuee behavior is important to minimize the loss of lives and manage evacuation in the future. Evacuation destination choice entails the decision of affected people regarding where to stay, away from an impending hazard. This study investigates the factors considered by households when choosing where to go during an evacuation perio...
This study evaluated the properties of hot mix asphalt (HMA) with pulverized 17 ceramic tile wastes (CTW) to serve as mineral filler for HMA. The physical properties of the 18 HMA with pulverized CTW, were compared to the properties of HMA conventional mix and 19 HMA with fly ash. The properties evaluated include the specific gravity, bulk specific...
Analysis of influential factors to evacuation decision, a key input to evacuation planning, is important for better management in future evacuations. Evacuation decision indicates the choice of households to fully, partially evacuate or stay from the area at risk of impending hazard. This study aims to develop a model of flood evacuation decision u...
In today's fast-paced world, the need of practical activity-based travel demand models for special generators like universities need further development. Better understanding of how people organize and schedule their activities gives more solid basis for travel demand modelling which is being addressed in the activity-based approach to travel deman...
The need for better evacuation management is becoming inevitably important as a preparedness measure to minimize negative impacts of disasters. One of the essential aspects necessary for evacuation modeling and management is taking into account the travel behavior of evacuees. This study was conducted to understand the evacuation route choice behav...
Increasing frequency and severity of hazards that lead to devastating disaster impacts demand building substantial response capability. Evacuation is seen as one of the effective measures to avert disaster impacts. Planning and modeling of effective evacuation incorporate evacuation travel behavior. This study seeks to identify and understand the e...
Evacuation is one of the important preparedness measures in disaster management. It requires careful modeling and planning to minimize chaos and confusion during evacuation operations. The choice of decision-makers, whether to evacuate or stay in the area threatened by hazard, is an important aspect of evacuation travel behavior research. This is c...
Flood evacuation route choice modeling studies gained its momentum in recent years. However, understanding how various explanatory variables determine flood route choice behavior of evacuees has not been fully investigated. The goal of this study is to understand flood evacuation route choice behavior of households at Bahay Toro and Sto. Domingo su...
Modeling evacuation departure time is primarily essential in evacuation demand modeling. In this study, a discrete choice model is used to understand the decision of evacuation departure time of households in flood affected areas in Quezon City, Philippines. Specification of the model is also validated. Results of the study provide useful insights...
Flooding is viewed by many as a natural phenomenon, which is necessary for biodiversity. However, with the anthropogenic activities brought about by changes in land-use and climate, floods are observed to be more frequent and severe. In order to avert the negative impacts of flood, preparedness measure such as evacuation is increasingly necessary....
Evacuation decision during flood disasters indicates the choice of households to evacuate or stay from area at risk. This may be viewed as simple decision but involves complex behavioral and other external factors. Evacuation decision serves as key input to transportation planning in the event of flood, hence, careful consideration of the factors t...
