Question
One of the things we continue to hear is the cry for smaller classrooms in order for their to be more 1-1 time between a student and a teacher. I'd like to ask that you reconsider this. The role of the teacher in the classroom is to facilitate learning, calling forth what is natural within each child. The differences in age, time, perspective and 'what is', is significant. Students need to be given the opportunity to rethink their responses, not repeat what the teacher's generation has done. When students accept responsibility for the social dimension of their learning environment, the shift in relational dynamics moves to what is appropriate; peer-to-peer. It is here that true learning, unlearning and relearning begins as they innovate and experience solutions that lead to appropriate social interactions.
