Introduction
I am interested in taxonomy, phylogenetics, and evolution of seed plants. My current focus is on Old World Melastomataceae, particularly the fleshy-fruited Sonerileae and Malagasy Melastomataceae.

Evolutionary relationships within the Melastomateae, a diverse tribe within the Melastomataceae, are not yet completely resolved, and some putatively paleoendemic taxa that might alter relationships are still unsampled. This study employs a phylogenomic approach, utilizing target capture data, to revisit generic relationships and shed light on the...

With approximately 1080 species, Sonerileae is the second‐largest tribe in the Melastomataceae. Approximately 40% of the Sonerileae species belong to fleshy‐fruited genera ( Catanthera , Heteroblemma , Kendrickia , Medinilla , Pachycentria , Plethiandra ). Relatively few species, especially of the fleshy‐fruited taxa, have been sampled for phylogen...

Background and aims – Within angiosperms, vivipary has been reported in less than 0.1% of all species. We herein report the first occurrence of vivipary in an Afrotropical Melastomataceae and discuss its phylogenetic position, habit, habitat, and fruit attributes. Material and methods – Observational data were gathered from a field expedition to Ga...

The increasing availability of DNA sequence data, in particular target enrichment data based on the universal Angiosperms353 probe set, but also accumulated Sanger data from previous phylogenetic studies, is facilitating the placement of taxa that are difficult to place with certainty based on morphological evidence alone. Here, we investigate phyl...

The tribe Sonerileae in tropical Africa and Madagascar is a morphologically diverse lineage that consists of 239 species in 10 genera. In this study, we present the first in‐depth phylogenetic analysis of African Sonerileae to test monophyly of the currently recognised genera. Phylogenetic analyses were performed using sequence data from two nuclea...

After the merger of the former Taxodiaceae and Cupressaceae s.s., currently the conifer family Cupressaceae (sensu lato) comprises seven subfamilies and 32 genera, most of which are important components of temperate and mountainous forests. With the exception of a recently published genus-level phylogeny of gymnosperms inferred from sequence analys...

Phylogenies of an increasing number of taxa have been resolved with the development of phylogenomics. However, the intergeneric relationships of Podocarpaceae, the second largest family of conifers comprising 19 genera and approximately 187 species mainly distributed in the Southern Hemisphere, have not been well disentangled in previous studies, e...
