Project (1)
How did the brothers and sisters of the devotio moderna understand knowledge and education? It certainly seems paradoxical to a modern epistemological sensibility - a movement that eschewed knowledge and the package of university education that pioneered schools of Latin, Greek and Hebrew. My project seeks to frame the educational praxes of the New Devout in the context of their broader social imaginary - that is, their imagined place in the cosmos, the predicament they thought themselves to be in and, by extension, the place of knowledge in that imagination.
